Its better for the Caps to Miss the Playoffs

Description
I know once you make it to the post-season its anyone's opportunity to get hot and win the cup.

BUT I really cannot see the Capitals making it past the first/second round if they got hot. There are too many staked teams to trust in the Capitals hot and cold game play to make it through them.

I would honestly say its best for them to get a higher overall pick and a chance at a better prospect to help our rebuild.

With prospects of Leonard, Funk, Cristall, Stevenson, Persson and Sudz we have a great start to this rebuild. That is not even mentioning the young players currently playing with the Caps Miro, McMichael, Lapierre, Sandin, Marty, Iorio (that is a scratch but still up).

The best course of action is keep stacking the prospect pool and get this team ready for the next era.

Capitals will have a lot of Caps space (depending on what McMichael signs for.... I am thinking somewhere in the 5 years 4 m. AAV range)

This is only players that need to be traded during the offseason.

Also not putting in a return.

Best offer just take it go.

Can't imagine you'll get positive value for Kuemper. The Merz-Kuemp swap I've seen thrown around seems to be the closest the Caps would get to any sort of "value" (though for reasons of earlier in the season I don't know if Merz would get along well in DC). I'd rather just hold onto him: buy him out if you must next year but at least let him mentor Stevenson for a season before he's shown the door. Would like to see them keep Bear around unless they need the cap space. I haven't really been a fan of his this season but depth is always needed and you might be able to pawn him off for more at the deadline if you give him another chance next season.
