So uhh... We're trading a guy we could possibly sign at just over $1M just to dump Holl's $3.4M... When we could just buy out Holl for $1.1M.

Is this what they're talking about when they say "Girl math"?

Berggren’s a redundant asset on the roster with the smaller forwards already there. Front office has made it clear he’s not in the plans. You attach him to Holl to maximize your space in an offseason they are going to need all of it.

Or you just:

Sign Berggren 1 x $1.1M
Buyout Holl and save $2.3M
Trade Fabbri and save $2M - $4M depending on retention.

Berggren’s getting traded either way. Again, he’s not in the plans. They literally decided they’d rather have Czarnik in the lineup than him. Buying out Holl saves 2.3 this year and adds 1.1 in following years. Removing Holl and Berggren removes 4.6 from the active roster this year and allows a clean break without future year cap issues. Fabbri’s cap hit can fall off naturally the following year.

It's almost like him being one game from losing waiver exemption had something to do with their decision...

If they thought he could have helped them secure a playoff spot, it wouldn’t have mattered. I like Berggren as much as the next guy, but acting like he’s some key piece to the roster is silly. He’s a bottom 6 forward that has some trade value. Not every prospect is gonna make the rafters.

Nobody said he's a key piece.

I said he's a Fabbri replacement at a quarter of the cost lol.

I’m open to moving Fabbri too. The point was, I don’t think he’s on the roster regardless next year. It’s the same reason I didn’t bother re-signing Kane. So if you are moving him, attaching him to Holl is a better option than buying Holl out and deferring his salary to future years.
