Blues Offseason

Created by: StDetroitBlueWings
Team: 2024-25 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 17, 2024
Published: Apr. 17, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Have a feeling it'll be a quiet offseason regardless, but just a few moves I wouldn't mind to get younger and start refreshing the team.

Lundell trade most likely is not going to happen, but Florida is about to be down bad with the cap and may have to lose some decent players. Getting Faulk for cheap for the back end may help them a lot.
Buch hopefully gets an extension (5 x 7.5-8). Then maybe depending on this play, can flip Leddy at the deadline for picks and bring up Lindstein if he's performing well in Springfield (assuming that's where he's at next year) or try to snag someone like Broberg from EDM.

Already expecting other fans to come in and say heck no, but that's expected from this site anyway

Trades
1.
STL
  1. 2024 1st round pick (NJD)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Blues move up to 10 and select one of Buium, Silayev, Dickenson and opens up a space
NJD
  1. Hayes, Kevin ($1,200,000 retained)
  2. 2024 1st round pick (STL)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
Moves back a few spots while gaining another pick and a 3C (seen they could be interested in Greentree if he's available here)
2.
STL
  1. Acciari, Noel
  2. Graves, Ryan
Additional Details:
Graves may not be wanted in STL but a change of scenery wouldn't hurt, and it offloads Krug, so screw it. Why not. Better than a buy out
PIT
  1. Krug, Torey
  2. 2024 4th round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
Whatever works honestly. This just makes cap hit the same for 2 years then after that cap should go up and hopefully doesn't hurt either team as much
3.
STL
  1. Lundell, Anton [RFA Rights]
FLA
  1. Faulk, Justin ($3,250,000 retained)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (NJD)
  3. 2024 7th round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Not sure on the value but just curious on the fit since Florida will need cheap d-men and not sure they can resign Lundell. Gets a capable RD that can play top or middle pair for 3.25 million for a few years during a tight cap

Florida isn't trading Lundell for a 32 year old Justin Faulk.

And good luck to anyone that drafts Zeev Buium because he wants to play with his brother Shai and since we just signed him. It's a greater chance he's going to want to play in Detroit only.

I don't care how disappointed I am in Graves's season; getting older, more expensive, and more offensively oriented with Krug is not in Pittsburgh's best interest.

I'm not too high on Buium (would much rather Dickenson). Maybe Detroit ends up getting Buium if he's available there around 14/15. And just not sure how Florida is going to be able to sign everyone while rostering a competitive team again with their minimal cap available. May need to trade away some people to get cheap and cost controlled players that can provide quality play. Not sure if they can get a second pair player for under 4 million

I've just seen a ton of trades trying to offload both graves and acciari and a couple sending Krug to Pit. Do they want him? Probably not. But honestly never know with Dubas and his whole "screw the D, all out offense" approach he seems to have. Not even sure where (or if) there's a fit for Krug anywhere. Just wanted to make the money work with Pit at least. Would rather take on a bad contract or two and get rid of Krug than a buyout (or try again next year)

I don't think I'd move from 10 for a 2nd and a meh 3C. Devils getting Iginla would be great there.

I've just seen quite a few where Devils are moving back to mid teens for extra picks. blues would want to move up to around 10 ideally if possible. Think there's a trade partnership there. just a matter of what it would take and who's available at the time

I think some are just doing it to do something. I don't think it's a smart move at all.

I don't buy the "screw the D" apporach thing. Sure, Karlsson is not defensively, but every other addition Dubas made in Pittsburgh last offseason was meant to be defensively oriented.
I think improving the defensive skills of the D around EK and Tanger is a must this summer. I have no reason to think Graves for Krug does that.

Just seems like a Dubas thing though. Even in Toronto, it was all about offense and firepower. Neglected the defense and goalies. Maybe he changes it with Pitt.

this is one step above "Dubas loves his guys" logic

You want to move Krug, try AZ they will need defensemen in the offseason.

Is Shai Buium ever going to be high enough on the depth chart to play with his brother at Detroit?

He should be, I can see some of our LHD being used as trade chips to improve the team.
