Tristan Jarry does not return the largest goalie package of the salary cap era.

you are expecting to much out of a goalie trade. They are not going to get a 1st out of him.
Rather than get a second Bahl coming back is a guy they can at least use in their 3rd pairing.
The 2nd round pick, that won't see the ice till Crosby is retired. At that point, who cares.

clearly your reasoning works but... bahl is not as valuable as a 1st/2nd round pick imo, he is not that good. we need a top 4 LD from a jarry trade or at least gain the assets to go trade for him.

The Devils were going to give up Alexander Holtz for Jacob Markstrom. Jarry is younger and under contract for longer, and he’s more consistent. He is also cheaper. If I was the GM I wouldn’t want to get rid of Holtz, and if they had goaltending they would have made the playoffs. A late first and late second plus a player with not a lot of upside who is losing value. That is a slam dunk of a trade.

you have 2 2LD on the penguins. What penguins fans want is a 1LD and they aren't getting that without spending 7 mil on cap which they aren't doing.
When you fix the issues in the 3rd pairing which Bahl can do on the cheap, you fix a lot of issues on the defense.
We aren't going to get anything great for Jarry, while you may look at a 2nd as being worth more, they don't have time to wait for them to develop. This team will be in rebuild mode in 2 years. Some mid round 2nd round pick ain't going to matter then.

says who the internet. Obviously it didn't happen so the "were" part is pretty much a dead issue.

You aren’t asking for a late 1st. You are asking for a top 10 pick.

you don't have to get picks to pick players, you can just flip them. we need tradable assets to get a good Dman not bahl. we have a great 1LD in Pete that can complement perfectly EK65, then we need a solid stay at home guy to play with tanger and our defense is done (have a third pairing of graves-st.ivany which is more than fine, even better if you can trade out graves contract)

NJDs 1st this year is 10th overall. You specifically stated this years 1st.

Jarry doesn't fetch a late 1st either at this point after his struggles down the stretch

MP isn't a 1LD. He's just a good 2LD.
As far as trading for a Dman, I don't really see that in the future. They don't want to give up the assets at this point to do that. It's going to cost more than a 2nd to get a good defenseman. Probably a 1st and you'd have to be a really bad GM to trade their 1st round picks at this point.
