If he has a good offseason, I could even see Pickering, 20, winning a bottom pairing role.

what's the point of trading Smith just to sign DeBrusk?
They are both 40 point players. You can expect roughly the same production out of both.
It's like paying 7 mil for a 40 point player next season.
Hard pass.
If they are going to move Smith out, they need to spend that money on a legit top winger. Not a 40 point player.

Sure, fair point. I do think they have different playstyles though.
