He was objectively bad this series. He also STILL led our team in goals this year. The only 30 goal scorer. As a 38 year old. We just need to cushion him with talent more rather than relying on him to carry

The team needs to learn puck control and offensive zone pressure with crisp clean passing and cycling and creativity.

The Caps suck in all that.

Ovie was used to playing with better players in those departments.

If he was wearing a step tracker … he maybe took 500 steps / game. He’s fat. He’s lazy. Maybe if he tried to get in shape I would change my mind but he was pathetic

Ovenchicken is done, stick a fork in him.
Yet it's all about sitting in the weeds, waiting for goals, in the regular season of course!
Long live the Great One and One of his records!

he hasn't been able to skate for years. The fact WSH fans are just starting to notice this.

He's been standing in one spot on the ice for so long without moving. Everyone else around him got old and or just isn't as good.

He's basically turning into a 3rd-4th liner power play expert.
He can probably shoot that puck till he's in his mid 40s. But he can't move anymore.
He's 40 goals away from the record. 2 years left on contract. But if he plays like this for the last 2 years he might not make it. As it's getting harder and harder to put him on the ice for anything but a power play.
He needed to drop 40-50 lbs years ago. But he's a goon and wanted to be bigger than other players to bully them. It will cost him years on his career.
He should get down to 180-190 lbs. It he'd be able to move more and not be nearly as slow.

He doesn't need the record at all. Let him just give it up. No one really cares about legacy, anyways.

Ovechkin has been like this for a good 5 years or more. The lost controller meme. How are you even a Caps fans? LMAO

Shows me so many American fans have no clue about the game of hockey which explains Ducks fans thinking Trevor Zegras has McDavid value LOL

Bro he had 50g and 90 points 2 years ago. The NHL full on blew Crosby for having similar stats this year. Lol he’s fat and should lose 15-20 pounds but that’s unlikely.

Legacy > Cups is why I’m frustrated. Prioritizing his goals scoring over winning is about as dumb as it gets

he's been getting dusted up and down the ice since at least the 2017 season. Penguins forwards smoked him on the way to the cup. He could not keep pace.

Agree to disagree. You don’t score 50 goals and not be able to skate

Since 2017 he has scored 328 goals, second in the league to Matthews' 368 and has won 3 rockets, been a first team all-star, won A CUP, and a conn smythe (which although it should've gone to kuzy is far from the only undeserved conne smythe in history). In the 25 playoff games they have played head to head, Ovechkin has 33 points to Crosby's 30 leading in both goals and assists. He's going to break a record that should be unbreakable. He just carried a completely awful Caps team to the playoffs (unlike a certain someone that's getting Hart shouts!). This is all in his ages 32 to 38 seasons, when most NHL players fall off a cliff and retire.

What someone thinks about Ovi is the easiest gauge of how smart they are as a fan, unfortunately there are way too many people with absolutely zero puck knowledge[/quote]

Exactly my point. Ovechkin is still looked to as “the guy” for our offense. It’s unfair to him as a 38yo who’s played nearly 1600 career games (regular + postseason). He can put the puck in with an elite shot and may need to get some greasier goals closer to the crease. But he really needs a better supporting cast, for both the goal chase and staying competitive. Even back then, outside of Backstrom, Oshie, Carlson, Holtby, Semin and Green from 2008-2012, there was never the depth. He’s carried us for so long, and it’s a fast, young man’s league.

I've done Acgm's with the Caps trying to pry Zegras from the Ducks (they drafted 2 more Centers, Carlsson and Mctavish), now that would give Ovie a fast young creative player to help.

Far more likely to get Marner. Zegras is a lazy player. I would hard pass on him. Rather target Ehlers or Batherson

Marner will say no to any trades, that's the power of owning a NMC.

Sens would be a good trade partner for the Caps.

Also Laine needs a new home if you like him.

This market is bi polar. Remember when Nylander was a selfish overpaid player Leafs fan called ME-Lander because he was a contract holdout and missed 1/3 of a season, then he was a lazy playoff floater until he had 1 good playoff and now 1 great regular season and he cashes in on a 8 yr $90+ million deal.

Marner will not be traded, this isn't his first time dealing with unhappy fans, Mitch went back to back seasons without scoring a playoff goal, yet he stayed and appeared in the Allstar games afterwards.

you are really clueless.
You seem to think that scoring goals and foot speed are the same thing. They are not.
OV has a career of not moving on the ice. This is facts.
He's been slow for a very long time. It's not something that just happened.
You can look at his play this season, he still got 30 goal.... but he can't skate for $#!t
Goals and being able to move are two different things. You just don't seem to get that.
He's slow. He's been slow for a long time now.

Ovie doesn't try to skate because his ice time is still 19 minutes per game... too much for him to handle, if Ovie only gets 15 minutes per game he "might" skate harder because he isn't overworked.
