what's that? the Red Wings finally missed the playoffs after not having made it out of the 2nd round since 2009? and they've been continually picking in the teens in the 1st round because of their mediocre performance in the playoffs since then? and Ken Holland doesn't seem to know what he's doing?

great franchise ya got there. at least Francis and Peters seem to know what they're doing.

Peter Karmanos, for the past 2 years, has been forced to sell the team.
Latest news 12 days ago, is that a guy named Chuck Greenberg will take over in a deal that values the franchise at $500 million

It hasn't been the disaster of the Coyotes, but the longer the Hurricanes have been on the open market, the worse the situation is.
Quebec City IS the league's backup plan for the Hurricanes, the arena is there and there is an owner who can't afford the expansion fee but can afford to take over a struggling eastern conference franchise.

I'll say you're both correct, but if not for the latest rumor about Greenberg I would say you were wrong.

Nobody's going back to Québec City.

The Nordiques left in '95 because the Canadian dollar was weak. The Canadian dollar is still weak. Why go back to a city where the condition that caused the previous franchise to leave is still in effect?

It's an improved position compared to Raleigh, in both ownership and local revenue -- Bank of America, IBM, ... even GlaxoSmithKline and Cisco are far from what they once were to the area. Blame it on the team not being competitive, but it's similar to Atlanta and Miami in the lack of roots no matter how well the team is doing or is marketed.

But Canadian teams still make money in Canadian dollars and pay players in American dollars. With the CAD = 0.8 USD, that hurts the bottom line pretty hard. And, with Québec City being the smallest media market courting an NHL team and no nearby metro area to feed off of, it would re-create the same circumstances that caused them to leave.
