I wish this contract had more term but I can understand the "show me" type contract to have him prove he's the starter going forward.

I like the deal. I think he had a pretty underrated season last year, especially considering what kind of defense he was behind.

Sabres have some big contracts wrapping up. Next season: Kane @ 5.25, Gorges @ 3.9. Season after: Pominville @ 5.6, Moulson @ 5

They have $11 million in cap space for 2 more roster spots, with Girgensons and Beaulieu to be signed.

Good position to head into the season with some leeway for any trade opportunities -- don't expect any significant UFAs to be added.
Everything is oriented to securing Eichel, Reinhart, and Lehner next summer to join Ristolainen/O'Reilly/Okposo as the long term core.

The big question will be how well Kane showcases and what kind of return he can bring
