I like Fabbro.
One flaw, you don't have the cap space to retain 50% on Holl. M sure the contracts can be adjusted though.

Ya I was trying to work with some contracts to make it fit. I think I might have come up about 300K short but that can be worked out somewhere in terms of signings

I think you might be a bit high on Raymond, I really have a hard time believing he gets the same as Larkin but who knows. At least you weren't low on him and Seider.
If you don't know how to do retention, there is a + sign right beside the x when the player is in the trade box. Hit the + then add on the dollar amount. You can't use percentage, it has to be a dollar amount, then hit apply.
Also I think Fabbro will cost a bit more to acquire. He plays meaningful minutes for Nashville.

Oh sweet I didn't know that, thanks for the info!!

The only reason I give Raymond that money is because I reallyyy don't want to bridge him. I kinda just threw them at that internal cap number which was set with the Larkin deal.

And I agree, I also think Nashville ultimately passes on that. But man I really do think Fabbro would be the perfect stop gap in the 2/3 RD slot until ASP comes along. Need someone to eat some minutes and lessen rookie mistakes from either AlJo or Edvinsson and I think Fabbro can do that. Plus he's relatively young so there is a possibility of a future there if both parties see fit.

I'm gonna push back and say they accept. Getting a 3rd and a 4th for simply taking on 1.5Mill in cap is a solid deal. Especially for 2 years when playoff contention realistically isn't really in the picture.

Yeah I agree with your reasoning, I hope long term deals get signed for both.

Fabbro would be a good stop gap to even work as a potential longer term solution. I think we try the free agent route first. ASP is two years from making the NHL at least, he's staying in Sweden for next season and then likely a year in Grand Rapids to get attuned to the game here. My personal preference for free agents in order of most desired by me would be Roy, Tanev, Pesce, Demelo, Walker, Carrier, Montour and so on. But lots of targets in free agency. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in Barrie to run the powerplay on a cheap deal.

Feels like Fabbro has more value than that return.

Its not a value thing, its a roster spot thing. Montreal's got a lot of young D they're in the middle of integrating and if they're adding a vet they'd want someone better and/or with experience and more leadership. Montreal doesn't need mid-round picks either.

Detroit's giving up two picks to retain half on a guy rather than just buy him out because.... Why?

Habs don't need Holl.

They want to play their young D.

Savard is still there to be the mentor.

Half the amount of time paying him lol. Buy him out and you pay him for 4 years, retain and you only pay him for 2

That's fair. My go to for the Justin Holl cap dump was always San Jose for me, but I was tired of San Jose fans yelling at me even tho I don't really see why a team like San Jose wouldn't take a cap dump at this point in their rebuild.

But the more I'm listening to people in these comments, the habs are clearly not the trade partner for this. Which is totally fine.

$1.1M is a drop in the bucket of a $96.6M cap and unless they elect to bridge Raymond/Seider, Edvinsson is the only major contract they'll have coming up during that buyout. (Year 4)

Kasper and Danielson will still be on ELCs in year 3 and probably year 4 with the way we're dragging our feet promoting talent lol. Unless Cossa is an absolute, consistent stud immediately, he probably gets a bridge. Typical goalie treatment.

The way I see it, I think 25/26 and especially 26/27 is where things really start to ramp up and I think stevie will want on the cap space he can get in those years.

Yeah... But like I said there's nobody in the organization requiring a major extension in that time outside Edvinsson.

Assuming guys like Kasper/Danielson don't bust, you're looking at a year 3 cap of $96.6M with two guys in significant roles on ELC, and a year four cap of $101.5M with at least one, if not both still on ELCs.

Doesn't even factor in ASP, if he pans out, on an ELC that entire time.

I get where you're coming from, don't get me wrong. But the direction I was kind of eluding to is outside pieces coming in via trade or signing. I love the foundation of this core but I think we can both agree we're still a few pieces away from being a true contender even with the rookies coming in so having that cap flexibility in those two following years could be important
