Term is important here. Buying up UFA years is much more expensive than shorter, RFA-only deals.

For anyone coming off of an ELC, the term will drastically change the AAV. I assume this is maxed out at 8 yrs and if so, those AAV make sense. But I think there's so much more hockey to play before any of those ELC guys besides Eichel and Matthews and maybe Laine should automatically get 8 year deals like these. So I don't disagree with any of them, but I'd question whether guys like Werenski, Marner, Nylander, and Aho deserve these 8 year big money deals. Again, when their deals expire, it may be a different story.

In any case, I'm just glad STL were able to lock up Tarasenko for 8x7.5. Very quickly becoming one of the best contracts out there. smile

True, I think it all depends on what Werenksi, Marner etc... can all do in their 2nd years we will have to wait and see.....
It's amazing the Blues hammered that Vlady deal done, guarantee if he had to sign now he would ask for north of 8.5 million cuz of the rising cap and guys like Draisaitl asking for 9 million
