1st Line C, No RNH

Created by: memewarrior
Team: 2017-18 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 4, 2017
Published: Aug. 4, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It's been a strange off season for the Habs. Bergy may or may not have had to stand firm in negotiations with Radulov and Markov. Either way, I don't know if it explains the sudden influx of old left handed D or the ongoing lack of a top line center. Here's an attempt at addressing both the center position and the mobility on D without giving away Gallagher. Bryan Little isn't the sexiest name available but he was 12th in faceoffs in the league last year and has good position numbers. From here, I would consider pursuing another center (3rd line) or juggling the lines to move Shaw back to the wing.
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Little, Bryan
Additional Details:
Little is a great center but doesn't have the name recognition of an RNH. MTL should be able to acquire him without giving up Gallagher and his affordable contract (like in many of the projected RNH deals). MTL fans will likely still consider this an over payment but given the asking price for Duchene and Plekanec's cap hit, I think this is what it may take. Also Price is now signed long term with the Habs and the current market for goalies is not great.
WPG
  1. Lindgren, Charlie
  2. Plekanec, Tomas
Additional Details:
Scheifele has established himself as the 1st line center in WPG. With Little UFA at the end of the next season, WPG adds Plekanec, another UFA, but one that they will be able to resign for cheaper than Little (nvm Pleky's current cap hit) with Ehlers' contract also up that off season. Plekanec also comes in to provide more of a shutdown role and improve team D among the forwards. More importantly though, WPG gets Lindgren who could be their solution in goal if Mason, Hellebuyck, and Hutchinson continue their trend of not being able to own the crease.
2.
MTL
  1. Pouliot, Derrick
Additional Details:
MTL use one of their two 2nd rounders in the next draft to acquire a mobile puck moving LD to fill the void left by Markov and Beaulieu.
PIT
  1. Mitchell, Torrey ($200,000 retained)
  2. 2018 2nd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
PIT has Dumolin and Maata locked up long term. They get value back for their former 1st rounder Pouliot in a 2nd round pick and Mitchell, who can be the new Cullen on the 4th line (I don't know why the Habs didn't use him last playoff run and traded for Steve Ott). Alternatively, if PIT wants to keep Pouliot and seeks some cap relief, maybe a deal can be worked out for Maata.

Not enough for Little. He looks like he could be a lifer with the Jets and He's better then Pleky and they don't have room for Lindgren

Agreed. Little is an underrated player and the Jets know it. They'll try to sign him to an extension as they don't really have a solid replacement for him yet in the system, and Pleky is no replacement. They have cap room next year so it won't be a problem.
