Pastrnak

Description
Thought I would take a stab at the Pastrnak speculation. Obviously bringing back Loui to Boston a 2nd time wouldn't be a popular move and another Canucks veteran might have to replace him in this trade (Edler?). Either way, I think my main point is that Vancouver doesn't have the assets to make such a trade work. They would have to give up Horvat plus more, which isn't really an option for a rebuilding team. That said, help BOS clear Beleskey and that might change things.

Trades
1.
VAN
  1. 2018 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
With Gagner signed for 3 years, Sutter is redundant imo and his NTC problematic for a rebuilding team. VAN moves him for picks in an upcoming draft that is said to be pretty deep. Sutter waives his NTC to play for a contender and to be closer to home in Alberta.
EDM
  1. Sutter, Brandon
Additional Details:
Sutter allows EDM to more confidently explore moving RNH. He basically comes in as a cheaper 3rd line center with more grit and defensive upside than RNH. VAN could explorer acquiring RNH themselves but I don't see EDM trading him within the division.
2.
VAN
  1. Beleskey, Matt
Additional Details:
Rights to David Pastrnak
BOS
  1. Eriksson, Loui ($900,000 retained)
  2. Virtanen, Jake
  3. 2018 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
For Pastrnak, BOS clears Beleskey's contract and takes Loui back, albeit at a reduced price. Yes, he had a down season but reunited with the players that earned him this contract (because they can actually make space for him unlike the Nucks) he should have success again. BOS also gets former 1st rounder Virtanen to replace Pastrnak's right shot along with a 2nd round pick acquired from EDM. If this isn't enough, I would look in to adding a left handed D prospect, possibly Pedan.

So a guy coming off his worst career year, a prospect struggling to make the NHL and a 2nd rounder from a team that could win the cup....for a 20yr old stud winger? yup sounds like a quality deal.

Horvat+ is the starter for Pasta

Obviously, a bit of fantasy to clear that Loui deal. And sure, a down year but a great year before that. The change in team and that team being the Canucks likely had a large part in that. Virtanen, like a lot of younger players, couldn't get the time of day with Desjardins. Hopefully going to be a different story under Green and I'm willing to bet on Virtanen turning it around. Like I said, giving away Horvat+ doesn't make sense for the Canucks. Only hope is to take Beleskey, sell the deal as an cap saving measure, and ship a vet and other pieces. Doubt Pastrnak gets dealt anyway. He's just waiting on news from EDM me thinks.
