Chicago Non-Blockbuster

Created by: Hawkisles
Team: 2017-18 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 17, 2017
Published: Aug. 17, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This trade is hardly bombastic, but by the looks of things, the Isles have more skaters than they can make useful. They need to clear roster space for their wealth of prospects presumably making the jump this year. Chicago looks like it's gathering up low-cost talent for one last Cup Run (for awhile).

Josh Bailey is coming off a career year, and his passing ability could do well on a team full of scorers. Thomas Hickey, while not the most exciting defenseman in the league, is a solid bottom pairing guy who can hold his own well in the Top 4 in case of injury. I think both would do wonders for Chicago. Retaining their salaries will need to happen in light of Chicago's proximity to the cap ceiling.

The Isles get yet another 1st round pick for next year, which is rumored to be a strong draft. A package of three first rounders next year would be very enticing to any rebuilder, and Chicago's 1st rounder could be the final piece that Snow needs to acquire Duchene (or likely someone much better for the same price)

I'll admit I think Josh Bailey is worth waaaay more than this trade lets on, but Josh Bailey has always been a topic of controversy. People either despise him or like him, so I sold low.

I'm okay with it being a Chicgao fan, but it'd be nice if you did this from Chicgao's side aswell so we could see the cap situation afterwards.

I like the framework of the trade, in certain circumstances, though I think it makes the Islanders vulnerable

A big part of the reason I want this trade is because it opens up the Isles to far more trade options than they currently have.

I think the "2nd Big Garth Trade" everyone's expecting won't happen until the regular season starts. We have so many good prospects in every position. If they all play to their potential, we won't need to import talent. I think it's incredibly unlikely that Ho-Sang, Barzal and Pulock ALL burst on to the scene and collectively make us contenders (this year). But we won't know which of our prospects will get off to a slow start until we've seen them play decent amount of games. In short, I think Snow is waiting to make that 2nd big trade because he wants to use that trade to plug the biggest hole on the Isles roster and he won't know which hole to plug until 10-30 games into the season. If Snow is going to follow that logic, I say we might as well shave down the size of our roster, turn the shavings into a 1st rounder, and use that 1st rounder to make an even bigger splash than what we'd get with just the Hamonic trade picks alone.
