Why the **** would Carolina trade a 1st and 2nd for Iginla and Gionta when they can just sign them?

Why on earth would Montreal give up De La Rose and a 1st for a goaltender who isnt even good enough to play in the NHL?

1- Because I had already signed Iginla and Gionta but I wanted to trade them for high picks because I think they will still be worth it. That way, my team can be set for the present, and the future.
2- I have faith in Pickard, he was a solid goalie in Colorado and I think he has potential to be better in the NHL if he's given the chance. I also have Lindgren who I believe is a future goaltender that will be important for MTL and he's looked good the games he's played so far in the NHL (2) so if Pickard isn't good, he's an option IMO.
3- No, I don't own NHL 18 or a PS4/XBOX One for that matter
