Tear It Down- Give Up a draft to clear the cap

Created by: JhonnyCanuck
Team: 2017-18 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 31, 2017
Published: Nov. 1, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This may be crazy but it just might work. Wings punt on the 2019 Draft but clear enough cap space to build a contender. Detroit would have roughly 4 Million in cap space after re-signing RFAs, setting them up to make a run at OEL or another top D-man in the 2019 offseason.

in terms of the Ericsson/Devils trade, a 3rd round pick in 2019 isn't worth 3 years of a 4.25M cap hit. I'm all for them using their cap space to acquire assets, but that isn't enough. I would minimally ask for a 2018 2nd in addition.

Not sure all the trades go through, but somehow there are still cap “problems” with this team. Meaning the team doesn’t reach the cap floor.

That's fixed with new deals for Larkin, Mantha, and Athanasiou.

The 2019 draft is a pretty good draft as well, No way are we dealing 2019 picks to get rid of bad contracts Holland already said that it's not happening. Teams heading towards a rebuild don't shed picks like this to clear cap space. We've close to $17 million already next year not counting the increase in cap we've plenty to resign Larkin, Mantha and AA plus possibly bring up Svechnikov, Rasmussen, Cholowski we're not dealing these players for picks just not happening.
