Red Wings Rebuild?

Created by: Angry_Canucklehead
Team: 2017-18 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 8, 2017
Published: Nov. 8, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
My thoughts for a potential rebuild. Ericsson will stay for the sake of not expending a pick to dump him, he can be sent to the AHL, and cut off 50% of his cap hit. All the top prospects will stay in the AHL until they are ready, while those with NHL experience get to play. Jeff Blashill gets fired. Keith Petruzzelli (although not listed) and Coreau are the future goalies- the prospects on forward (Holmstrom, Bertuzzi, Rasmussen, Svechnikov) are already quite good, and the defence (Hicketts, Cholowski, Russo) are pretty good but more will be added through draft- mainly a top-2 guy. Goalies are good- this could be a Tampa Bay-like situation with 2 great goalies. With 8 top-3 picks in the upcoming draft-3 in the first round, and this is the deepest draft in a long time- the prospect pool will be as good as anyone's.
Trades
1.
DET
  1. 2018 2nd round pick (ANA)
ANA
  1. Nielsen, Frans
Additional Details:
Wings take a high pick, and Anaheim grabs a much-needed, talented centre to fill their huge holes at the position (due to injury).
2.
EDM
  1. Helm, Darren
Additional Details:
Detroit grabs much-needed size and speed, in a young player while a disturbingly terrible Oilers' offensive start means finding new recruits-and Helm can do a lot on his own
3.
MTL
  1. Hronek, Filip
  2. Nyquist, Gustav
  3. 2018 2nd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Nyquist isn't working out well in Detroit but Galchenyuk needs out. Nyquist has offensive upside (enough to attract lowly-offensive teams like Montreal) and they get a potential top-4 D-man in Hronek- something they really lack. Galchenyuk can, and will be, a franchise player in the right environment and won't come at a low cost.
4.
DET
  1. 2018 1st round pick (WSH)
WSH
  1. Green, Mike
Additional Details:
May seem weird, but a Green reunion-long or short-in Washington is possible. Considering the losses of Schmidt and Alzner, its not out of the question. This would make Washington's defence among the best in the league as well.
5.
ARI
  1. Mrázek, Petr
Additional Details:
Its like giving a hungry fish a worm. Arizona is absolutely desperate and Mrazek is a long-term option. Detroit has Coreau and Petruzzelli- two future starters-and won't need Mrazek. They will pull a solid youngster like Perlini from Arizona.
6.
DET
  1. Buchnevich, Pavel
  2. 2018 1st round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Daley, Trevor
  2. Saarijärvi, Vili
  3. 2020 1st round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Pavel Buchnevich will be good. Detroit will basically swap picks with the Rangers, to acquire another high pick this draft (this draft has a lot of insane players). The Rangers need D so bad- so they can have Daley, and Saarijaarvi for the future. Daley won't be enough to drag the Rangers out of that hole-especially when someone gets hurt. This Rangers pick will be a middle pick at worst.
7.
DET
  1. 2018 3rd round pick (SJS)
TOR
  1. Kronwall, Niklas
Additional Details:
Toronto needs defence. Badly. The Wings will hold 1.5 million of Kronwall's salary for the remainder of his contract- this will not be an interference to future signings as he has only 2 years left. Kronwall is a defensive D-man, and a leader, that the Leafs need.

I like the moves, but I don't think they would consider moving both Hron and Saar, it would likely be one or the other (if either). Both are more of the new model of Dman (think Makar, Girard mold, which coincidentally are both in Colorado now), so losing both would set them back some. After Hicketts, is Cholo really ready next year? If not, there is no other help in GR to play today's game, and would set back the defense a number of years further than it is already today. So while the moves at forward would be great, you may be robbing the defense to pay for the offense, and that's an area we can't afford to rob.

Like most of the trades here, Just don't see Nielsen waiving his NMC after only one season he loves playing in Detroit. And weren't dealing Hronek either he should eventually be our #2 D man other then those 2 not bad offers.
