Defensively he was a (-11) - which is second worst on the team and worst in the defensive group. It has to be considered, however, that he matches up against top lines every night / there are no easy shifts for Chychrun.
Great skater. Fast on straight lines. Agile. His 'routes' defending and keeping opponents to the perimeter have room for better execution - as does his gap control - defending against the rush

Begins his first full season in Ottawa after coming to the Senators in a trade from Arizona in (22/23) Logs a ton of ice time. Deployed in all situations. Sound hockey IQ. Explosive out of the blocks. Has the ability to lead the rush on his own. Not shy about adding an extra layer off the rush. Mostly area defender but also physically capable. Has plenty of strength to win space defending out front his net. Matches up against top six forwards. Fantastic shot / shoots the puck hard and accurately. Has shown he can adjust / take less risk and concentrate on defending in tight games. Averaged over 21:00 TOI

Used in all situations . Big. Strong. Moves well. Sound hockey IQ. Had to change his approach this season compared to last. The team is in full rebuild and his production offensively has fallen off with less support surrounding him. No easy minutes. Matches up against top opponents. Alert. Head on a swivel. Reads/Reacts Net front battle and overall defending in hard areas is better than average. Not overly physical. Uses his skating ability to get places ahead of opponents and make plays. Foundational player.
