Leo Carlsson Scouting Reports

The Ducks have a development plan in place for Carlsson. He isn't going to play every game this season. He's dressed in 10 games so far, although he did miss some time early on battling a minor injury.
So far so good overall. Carlsson is a big, strong, skilled, smart, finesse / power combination forward. He has excellent puck touch. He extends plays along the boards and absorbs contact to extend zone time. He sets up on the weak side goal line area on the PP and gravitates to the crease area setting screens. He's already had a hat trick (vs Philly) and he's showing he can be trusted away from the puck defensively.
Like most young players, at the NHL level, he is struggling in the face-off dot (25%) ... but it takes time to learn how to win draws versus the best players in the world.
Through 10GP he has averaged 18:21 TOI - 14:40 ES - 3:35 PP - and scored 6G - 2A

In his last ten game segment playing at the SHL level in 2023 he averaged nearly 15 minutes per game ice time and was deployed at even strength and the power-play.
Impressive year all around. Power-forward. Moves very well. A threat to make plays off the rush. Excellent puck touch. Hard to handle along the wall and out front the net. The kind of player who absorbs contact to extend plays. Ability to play the middle and the wing is a bonus. There are times he appears to be a distributor more than a shooter - but he has a great release and the skill set to tip pucks around the crease. Top line NHL upside. Competes. Reliable. Mature.

Power forward frame but not punishing. Shields pucks very well. Long reach in an asset. Has high end offensive tools and instincts. Leans distributor more than shooter. A very good skater for his stature. Off the rush he has the ability to get the edge and drive to open space. Fantastic glide. Breaks out of his turns without compromising speed.
