Owen Beck Scouting Reports

Beck is a 'do it all' forward who can be used in all situations. The 6'0 190lbs, right shot, forward produces offense without sacrificing detail defensively. He's above the play when his group doesn't have control in the offensive zone. He can take key face-offs on both sides of the ice. Simply put, Beck is a trustworthy, 200ft, forward who skates well and has plenty of battle in his game.
The Canadiens second-round pick (33rd) in 2022 will likely match up against top forwards and provide a layer of secondary offense for Team Canada.

Beck is the kind of player who can be thrust into a variety of roles.
Excellent in the face-off dot. Watch closely for him to turn his blade over when taking draws on his weak side. Starting with the puck in all three zones is important for teams at the WJC. He will be tasked with taking key draws.
Leans shooter more than play maker. Tracks the entire 200ft. Sound skater. Plays the game with detail. He's above the play when his group doesn't have control in the offensive zone. He's a strong defender down low / locking onto his man in the defensive zone.
Likely to provide better than secondary scoring at the NHL level. Not an elite 2nd line prospect but better than a 3rd line center on projection.

Continues to display high end detail, awareness and compete. Outstanding in the face-off circle. Wins key draws in all three zones.
Positionally sound. Above the play in the offensive zone when his group doesn't have control of the puck. Quick release when he finds pucks in scoring areas. Blocks shots on the penalty-kill. Plays with pace. More likely to contribute secondary scoring at the NHL level than top six output. Coaches dream. Can be thrust into any in game scenario. High end (3F) who will skate mostly at ES and PK - maybe some secondary PP.

At his first pro camp this fall he has shown he is capable of challenging for a job in the middle six of an NHL roster. It's possible he could see spot duty as a second line option in time.

Not a burner in open ice but still well above average quickness and speed. Has a plan with the puck on his stick. He has high end hockey IQ. He scored 5 of his 21 goals on the PP and also contributed a SHG. Not shy. Gets involved. Provides a bit of everything.
