Samuel Montembeault Scouting Reports

Montembeault was presented the challenge of having to battle for the net in Montreal this season, and earn a new contract for the future. He's accomplished both goals in recent weeks.
He's appeared in 10 games in 23/24 and posted a 2.73 GAA and .910 save % overall.
In his last five game segment (ending Nov 29th) his game went to another level. His save percentage was .931% over that span of games.
Big in the net. Athletic. Crease composure / tracking / rebound control / overall focus has improved. Much more consistent. Has the ability to steal games for the Habs.
Waiver pick up from the Florida Panthers who is trending towards being Habs #1A in future.

Montembeault is playing for a new contract. He's a pending UFA who the Canadiens would like to sign to an extension.
He will be making his tenth start of the season versus Colorado. He's starting to separate himself from the goalie logjam in Montreal.

Big in the net. Butterfly/Athletic style. Good feet. Above average gloves. Competes to make second / third stops. Full sixty minutes without giving up a 50/50 goal remains the challenge to get him to the next level of possibly being a full time #1.

Has been building towards full time NHL duty for the past couple seasons. Trending #2A who is capable of playing 30-35 games. Has not proven he is worthy of splitting time 50/50 or playing north of 50 games.
Butterfly / Athletic style - good feet - quick pads - good reflexes and the ability to make saves with blocker or catcher but there are times his timing / dropping into butterfly is marginally off and he gets beat caught 'in between' / not set to make the stop. His first five minutes of every period need to be monitored / 'start on time' - 'focused from puck drop' / Still relatively young by goalie standards - has worked hard on his game and earned a chance - Montreal is a rebuilding team that gives up more quality chances against than most NHL clubs - started 40 games (due to injury to starter Jake Allen) in (22/23) 3.42 GAA - .901%
