Seamus Casey Scouting Reports

Casey is logging a ton of minutes developing at the University of Michigan and showing positive growth overall.
The New Jersey Devils drafted Casey in the 2nd round (46th) in 2022.
Through 27GP (in 23/24) he had produced 5G-29A.
He is used in all situations - but his primary ice time comes at even strength and PP#1 as the quarterback. His role on the penalty kill is a secondary / clean up role.
Casey give up strength and weight in the hard areas but he's a solid defender who relies on his advanced hockey sense and jump to pucks - leading to zone exits.
He's sees the ice very well - the kind of player who can escape pressure and survey more than one option before executing a tape to tape outlet.
Best described as a 'Transitional / 2-way D'. Leans distributor more than shooter. Skates very well. Agile. Excellent edges. Coveted right shot.
Potentially a third pairing at even strength in the NHL who can quarterback one of the power-play units.

Off to a very good start to his college career
Deployed in all situations. QB on the PP. He is used on the PK but it isn't an area of strength. Not likely to PK at the pro level.
Read/React game is very strong. Pinches down to extend plays in the offensive zone. Good quickness out of the gate. Can lead the rush at times. Small area escapes is an an element.
His vision / execution / impact offensively project to be a potential top 4 NHL 'D' in time.

A transitional 'D' who can QB a power play unit
Good skater but not necessarily someone who will jump out of his zone and lead the rush consistently. Really good stick. Brings vision. More of a distributor than a shooter but not shy about directing pucks on net.
Competes defensively but he's on the smaller / light side and relies on his sense to anticipate and jump to space to win pucks. Has potential to be a (5) at ES and contribute on (PP) as pro
