<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>Moving both of Gillies and Rittich isn't wise, that leaves you with Parsons and McDonald in Stockton...

No picks in the first 3 rounds of the 2019 draft?</div></div>

Hutchinson was signed in the off season as you can see in the line-up for 3 years @ $1.75 million per year to be Smith's back-up. He's had tremendous numbers in the AHL this year going 15-2-1 with a .942 Save % and 1.95 GAA. He's also done well in his starts with the Jets this season. Unfortunately for him, the Jets signed Mason to back-up Hellebuyck and he's signed for next year as well at $4.1 million, which makes Hutchinson expendable. He hasn't had great numbers with the Jets the last two years, but neither did Hellebuyck nor any of their other goalies as the Jets were a defensive mess before turning the corner this year. Before that he did go 21-10-5 for the Jets 3 years ago when they played surprisingly well. I honestly do believe Hutchinson can be a solid back-up for Smith as well as a great and reliable starter if Smith gets injured or is not re-signed. Having Hutchinson for 3 years gives Parsons enough time to properly develop as I do believe he is the future goalie of the Flames, and we all know goalies and defenseman take more time to develop than forwards.

In regards no picks in the first 3 rounds of 2019, as unfortunate as that is, Flames have to trade those picks to make these moves in order to be a true playoff contender, and no longer just a bubble team with absolutely no consistency as they are right now. Since I traded their 3rd round pick in 2018 as well, and since they currently do not have any 1st or 2nd round picks in 2018 either, they won't have any picks in the first 3 rounds of 2018 either. So that will be 2018 and 2019 without picks in the first 3 rounds, but these changes NEED to be made to address their current mediocre line-up. Flames clearly sent the message that they are a WIN NOW team by trading a 1st and 2 2nds for Hamonic, and since they are a win now team, further picks must be sacrificed to ice a better team NOW, not drafting and waiting for prospects to develop. Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, and Hamilton's prime years cannot be wasted by being a bubble team for the next 10 years while they wait for prospects to develop, they need to be surrounded with better talent now in order to succeed. Flames need to focus on the now, with what they have and what will help improve their roster with the trades I mentioned in this line-up. However, not only do these trades help the Flames now, but they also help them in the future as Domi and Crouse are still incredinly young, and O'Reilly, Stone, and Kane are in their primes. Flames might not be able to replenish their prospects pool in 2018 or 2019, but they'll get right back at it in 2020. This line-up gives them the best chance to win the cup now as well as look towards the future, and is miles ahead of the current line-up they have.

I believe Parsons will be the goaltender of the future for the Flames. He's only 20 and had great numbers in the juniors. He was absolutely dominant for the US in their 2017 World Junior Championships winning gold vs Canada. Those numbers haven't translated well to the AHL but he's still young and has a lot to learn. He has the skill set and all the tools needed to be an NHL goaltender at some point.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ekpaul87</b></div><div>There are a lot of moving pieces here, and a pretty good end result. I think Stone would be a great pickup.

The O'Reilly deal is very interesting, because Buffalo can afford to take Stone and Brouwer, but they're definitely compensated well for it with Fox, Rittich and the 1st.

I don't think I like the Arizona deal much. Frolik has been quite effective (moreso than Domi), and to add Dube and Kylington (who both have way more upside than Crouse IMO) is an overpayment. I think Kylington, Poirier and the picks for Domi would be a fair deal.</div></div>

Yeah, the Stone and O'Reilly deals are fair in my opinion and the Flames get two great top 6 players, which they honestly really need. O'Reilly is a great two-way player and the best face-off man in the league. He wins anywhere from 15-30 face-offs a night. Those numbers would be immensely beneficial for the Flames who struggle to get puck possession, especially on the PP right off the draw.

In regards to the Arizona deal, Frolik has not be effective this year with only 10 goals for a $4.3 million dollar player on the second line. I'm not saying Domi has been more effective since he has less goals but does have more points. The point of the trade is for the present and the future. Domi is 7 years younger and fits our young core perfectly. I honestly believe he would flourish once he's out of that train wreck of Arizona lol. He's proven he can score and put up top 6 points and he's only in his 3rd season right now. Playing alongside a great two-way player in Backlund would be beneficial for his development and would help the Flames now and in the future, more so than Frolik would. In regards to Crouse, he's a heavy hitting machine, I don't think he'll ever be a top 6 player but he's the type of guy you need on your bottom 6 to help set the tone and stick up for your star players. He could fit in perfectly as a 3rd liner in the future in Ferland's spot if Ferland is traded or not given a contract extension.
