Fixing the D
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lambchopz</b></div><div>His production is really impressive, but he likely won’t ever be anything more than a good 2nd pair guy who quarterbacks a PP. Theodore is an elite d man, and by most is considered at worst a top 15 guy. His contract is very good as well. If he were to be available, I think the ask would be absolutely insane (Eichel level I’d expect. Eichel as a player held more value but also his contract was twice as much, and his injuries left some concerns). I wouldn’t be shocked if, in a situation where Vegas ever wanted to move Theodore, they’d want Rathbone + Podkolzin + 1st, and maybe more on top of that</div></div>
That's a very fair opinion. My original thought was Rathbone + Hoglander + 1st + 3rd. What would you think of that? Obviously this is keeping in mind the cap constraints of Vegas.
Thanks for the thoughtful response it's much appreciated.

2015 NHL Draft
There was 15 Legit stars from this 1 draft, and another 20+ quality players.
the depth and quality of this draft was unreal and to think they all are 24-26 and just entering their prime years.
Goal depth and RD depth was weaker in this draft but LD and forwards were STRONG.

Rathbone JBD swap
JBD would be a nice prospect for Van to get but Ottawa already has Chabot, Sanderson, Brannstrom as young LHD so I don't see them having a need for Rathbone.

Most likely through a Boeser or Garland trade. I think JBD, a 2023 protected first would get one of them. Rathbone is pretty
Valuable as he isn’t gonna cost that much

Not Jim Benning
i'd keep the 2nd round pick in this draft considering how deep it is, I wouldn't give up on Dickinson yet he could still be useful, we'd have to take some salary back from Dallas if they wanted Myers, and i'd rather get a cheaper option like Domi rather than go out and spend 5 mill on Rakell

If Benning were desperately trying to save his job, he most likely would have, but keep in mind the context there. JR and Allvin aren't going to have any problem looking at the bigger picture I guarantee

1. Say he is 10th, getting him for 4 more years for only 5m for a top 10 goalie is insane value. 2. The OP stated that this was if Vancouver did a rebuild, why would we need to dump 6m from Myers who has been a good top 4 RD for us this season if we are rebuilding/retooling when his contract expires in 2 years? Canucks don't see Myers as a cap dump.
You think 4 2nd's get you a top 10 goalie who is young and signed for 4x5?

Not good for Vancouver. There is no guarantee Portillo makes the NHL and an even slimmer chance he becomes the goalie Demko is. Floridas pick is a late first which has little value in this rather weak draft class

Oh yikes yikes yikes. Any trade that involves Demko requires either 1st OA draft pick or one of the acquiring team's top 2 roster players.

Finding a goalie that replaces Demko's value at only 5m for 4 more years is impossible though. Myers isn't a full cap dump either. He is overpaid at 6m but 4m is about the value he brings to the team.

Saying Demko isn’t a top 10 goalie is an absurd statement. He’s arguably top 5, easily top 10

Same, Theres a chance that he becomes the next joe pavelski but the odds of that are slim, it would be like giving 6m to a Swedish winger to play with the sedins

You should do one where you trade both Miller and Boeser. You are bang on though, this team isn't a real contender. Or even close to it. Many Canuck fans see Budreau as this guy who made the team great but that's misleading. They are very streaky under Budreau. Started off with a huge run of wins and then Jan through March you were a 500 team. Then another streak in April. In both streaks you beat a lot of bad teams.
The reality is Benning put together a deeply flawed roster with major cap issues. Lots of bad contracts with term as well. I think moving those out and having a bad year next year (and should have been this year) and you would be on the path to be a contender the season after next. Jumping the gun on rebuilds is always a bad idea.

I like the ideas, I think that the Dadonov thing is really smart, I think that as crazy as it sounds miller is more replaceable, we can have a top 6 without him, its the supporting pieces that we need. I think that if we were to pedal miller and get a young RD and a young middle 6 forward and a 1st we should be looking good. I really like the fillerteam idea, lets just have it be seattle because theyre the new guys
