<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeautifulIdiot</b></div><div>I dont think that you can say that for sure, I would argue the supporting cast role again but if you dont agree with that I would say that Petey is better defensively. Petey was injured his age 22 year and he was also in a pandemic, so I think that it is not out of the question to ask why he wasn’t lighting it up. I think that the best thing to go off of will be coming up this year. Hughes was feasting on the PP this year, and didnt show up on the PK score sheet where Petey scored less on the power play, showing that he has more to give, and scored on the PK.</div></div>

I say this with as much respect as possible, but you're homer-menatlity is blocking your vision. I really don't know how to say that a nicer way lol.

If you open the supporting cast discussion, then...

Is McDavid really not going to be that good on a team without Draisaitl?
Is Sid really not going to do what he does if he doesn't have Jake?

You get my point. It's a poor argument to make. The only real context a supporting cast can be useful for is for players who are in supporting roles/complimentary players, and goalies. Players at the level of Brayden Point? No way. Also, while VAN hasn't been a great team, it's not like Pettersson has been playing with a bunch of nobodies lol. He's had has some really great talent surrounding him.

Hughes is a better player than Pettersson and while it's not a huge gap right now, the gap will continue to grow as it has the last few years. Honestly, I'd say 95% of the people who would make an argument that Pettersson is better than Hughes are VAN fans.
