Welcome to the Ottawa Senators Zayne Parekh
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>It’s positional needs. Dickinson is good no doubt, but I would rather Parekh. Having Sanderson-Parekh would be nasty. Both defenders will be very good, but getting a high end RHD is way more valueable than a high end LHD… anyways, they already have one in Sanderson.</div></div>
In leagues like the NFL, yes, you draft depth chart and positional needs with high picks. In the NHL, top 10 picks are best available player. Dickinson and Parekh are 2-3 years out of being impactful at the moment. A lot can change in that time. The RHD issue needs to be addressed via trade and free agency with where this team is at to take the next step next season. Stock pile RHD prospects with later picks if that’s an area of concern.

When do good RD ever become available by trade?</div></div>
To be fair I want Catton over both of them. Grab a RHD with the Boston pick.

I’m sorry my friend, those 2 are not worth a possible top 25 pick.

Csick that has nothing to do with what we’re talking about.
Hanifin was a pending free agent on a team that’s about to re build.

Both Parekh and Dickinson are PP merchants so dis-regard the points. They are also playing with other teenagers.
Dickinson is the better skater, better shooter and is better defensively and is bigger. Left vs. Right shot is irrelevant. You take the best available player.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Beargold</b></div><div>Just nitpicking I suppose, but do you prefer Halliday over Ostapchuk? Guenette over JBD?</div></div>
At the moment, yes.
Hopefully Green comes in and has some positional battles in camp. Or maybe the Sens go out and are aggressive in free agency. Halliday looks really good for Belleville so far (though still early in his pro career).
JBD and Guenette could go either way. Not being in cap hell can allow us to bring more guys up and really assess throughout the year I suppose.

A top 4 Dman, middle 6 center and the 7th overall pick for a goalie with 1 year of term and a 4th liner.
Sens pass. Saros is a really good goalie though. Not for that however.

Who adds and how much
There are very few teams that risk that shoulder at ~ 8 million a season long term. Ottawa might have to come to the realization that he is effectively unmovable until he plays a full season or 2.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ggha777</b></div><div>Nah, Slaf had a very good 2nd half of the season. We’re happy with him</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ht42</b></div><div>Slaf is more complete and phisycal than Cooley.
Both are great, but Slaf clears him 100%</div></div>
I’m not trying to troll, so I should have added more context.
Slaf is a sure fire top line player and as a Sens fan I’d love to see him on our squad. He’s going to be the highest point getter the Habs have had since Kovalev.
However, Cooley is better and more complete. I will concede that Slaf is more physical. But in terms of long term impact, Cooley becomes the better player in my opinion. Though it’s close, I don’t think the Habs were wrong to take him 1, though it was surprising.
