I agree, they shouldn't wait too long as they need to maximize the value for him if they truly aren't going to resign him. I'm certain even in a flat cap, maybe closer to the deadline they could get a 1st round pick for him.

What Now Hawks 20-21 Conservative Estimate
Well, looks like I was pretty darn close on Kubalik. We'll see if they still decide to sign a veteran goalie, seems really strange they'd roll with 3 young unproven netminders. And I still think Strome comes in far lower than everyone thinks. I could see him approaching 2 million - 2.5, but not more than that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snowden89</b></div><div>lol 89 points in 116 games for the Hawks and Strome gets 1.5? lol ....at least triple that....Kubalik will get 5 ish in my opinion on a 3 year deal</div></div>
No way Strome gets triple that in this current flat cap world plus the fact he has zero arbitration rights. Maybe, and that's a big iff, he might approach 2-2.5 million depending on term. Kubalik might be a bit low in my estimate, I could see him closer to 4 million. 5 million? Not a chance. He's had one season and still didn't even hit 50 points. Guys like Dadonov at 4 million AAV or Buchnevich at 3.2 are some comparables. Personally I think Bo Horvat at 5.5 is a stretch on the high end.

Opening Night Lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Nylander was barely a ppg player in the AHL and had 3 years and 3 attempts in the NHL with a whooping 19 games and 5 points. Hate to break it to you, that's not a 1st line player in the NHL.</div></div>
He doesn't have to be. My point here is that if he makes the opening night roster, that would probably be the spot for him. He'd need to play in the top 6, otherwise he'll be in the AHL. Also, I don't see him on a line with DeBrincat and Strome, so the only other logical choice is with Toews and Saad who can generate chances and have puck possession. Again, this is all hypothetical meant for fun, not something set in stone. With Zack Smith now on the team instead of a draft pick for Anisimov, the chances Nylander makes the team are much smaller. Dach has a better chance of making it and then being sent back to juniors after 9 games. Perlini....should likely be signed now, but at the time it was still up in the air.

Hawks Roster Sans Any Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NickC1988</b></div><div>Trust me, majority of hawks followers on this site would say the same thing. It's a tough pill to swallow.</div></div>
Agreed, in it's current composition, due to the strength of the Central Division especially, this Hawks team most likely misses the playoffs. At best if you squint with everything falling into place which was the opposite of last year, this is maybe a wild card team that gets crushed in the first round again by a Winnipeg/Nashville/San Jose.

Hawks Roster Sans Any Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lly</b></div><div>It wouldn't have mattered to this year's roster if they did - Wahlstrom isn't going to play in the NHL until next season at the earliest.</div></div>
I like Wahlstrom a lot too, but let's be real here, at least the Hawks have young skill players on the NHL roster now (Schmaltz, DeBrincat, Sykura) that have potential to be top 6 forwards or are so already. The issue is outside Jokiharju and maybe Forsling, the Hawks have very few blue chip defensive prospects. If Boqvist pans out, they need that type of top 4 defenseman to replace Keith/Seabrook as they are both fading fast.

Sikura plays on the right and Kampf is a Center. Hayden also plays on the Right. Forsling plays on the left.</div></div>
It's semantics. I didn't put them in the correct positional spots because I didn't care. It was about who I would see making the opening day roster if they didn't make any other moves.

Faulk and Skinner to Chicago
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Faulk isn't worth more then a mid to late 1st rounder...here they get a 1st and 4th rounder for him.
Skinner is a 1 year rental and he gets a 2nd round pick, AA, Forsberg (Car needs a better backup), and Kahun who is one of the top prospects from the KHL. For a 1 year rental and being a 1 dimensional player, Skinner isn't worth more then that. You could swap out Beaudin, the #27 pick, with Kahun also if Car prefers.
OTT will get a 1st, 2nd and more for EK. They will need to replace EK on the right side and Rutta is serviceable on the 2nd line and a pretty good 3rd liner.</div></div>
Again my point is, is that what they SHOULD be worth? Yes. Is that what Carolina is going to want in return? Probably not. The reason they haven't moved these guys yet is because they are asking for too much. Until the price comes down, the other 30 teams are going to balk.

Not a bad idea here, but I think Carolina is going to want more from the Hawks than what you proposed. If they did do this, it would be a huge win for the Hawks. And I agree with the guy above, Ottawa isn't going to deal their 2nd rounder especially since they don't have a 1st rounder which was traded to Colorado. I could see Forsling or Rutta being moved, but it would be to some other team.

On a positive side, at least I was nearly dead on with the Hayden and Hinostroza cap hits with their signings.

I actually misclicked that pick, meant to add the 27th, not the 8th. It's now a moot point considering both picks were used instead of traded.
