How in any world does the current 2016 3OA some how dwarf last year's 3OA? This makes NO sense. They have pretty much the same value!

I can't wait till people realise these top 3 picks are no different then any of the previous 5 years top 3. (Except for McDavid of course)

Please for the sake of everyone else not picking in the top 3's sanity, stop making these guys out to be the next Wayne Gretzky's................</i></div></div>

your absoulutely right he was 3OA. but ever draft class is different. Everyone makes the mistake of comparing what pick a player was compared to the same pick from different years, while you should be comparing the players from the same draft. Erik Johnson is one of the worst first overall picks ever, but compared to the rest of his class hes one of the best. Strome is still a very very valuable piece but hes not the same as a top 3 pick this year.</i></div></div>

Absolutely agree and disagree. Picks from different years don't<em> necessarily</em> correlate. Saying 3rd overall <strong>doesn't somewhat</strong> correlate though is not true. Strome was picked 3rd because he has 2 generational talents picked ahead of him. Any ordinary draft and he's the defacto #1 pick. Switch him with Matthews in draft years and position and you'd be singing the exact same song as your doing now, only for Strome. If Matthews were 1 month younger he'd be in last year draft probably in 3rd position behind Eichel and just ahead of Strome. So i will gladly say that personally i think Matthews is better in terms of value than Strome is but how you can come up with Puljujarvi ahead of Strome is beyond me. There simply isn't any proof of that and simply speculation.

Also yes looking back Johnson isn't worthy of being the 1st overall pick when guys like Toews and Backstrom were taken ahead of him but at the time he was considered the best of the group. We only come to the decision now that he's not the best of that draft because we've seen him play the past 10 years. If every pick the last decade were drafted the same year as 18 year olds, Johnson would be equally thought of as Matthews is and rightfully so. If Matthews doesn't quite achieve superstar status in his first 5 years, we'll be saying the same thing about him and yet how wrong we were now to think so highly of him.

There is nothing we can say to prove one draft pick over another is truly better. Only time tells us that. Saying Strome won't be at the very least just as good as Puljujarvi is ludicrous. You can't see the future and your making a prediction no one in the hockey world can tell you as fact.</i></div></div>

I agree with you to some degree, strome is getting tossed in like hes just an average prospect, but there is perceived value in the unknown(3OA this year) even tho Strome was picked just last year we know a little more about him. he wasnt able to make the team right away, something Pulj is expected to do. I think the fact that the top three this year played in mens league and dominanted internationally show they are more likely nhl ready and more likely to reach their full potential.

Strome had two generational talents ahead of him, but you could argue he'd go 4 this year. Take away McD and Eichel last year, Strome only goes 2. EDM would have taken Hanafin.

The point is you cant directly compare a 3oa from one year to the next, or a 22oa from one year to the next. the quality of draft classes is completely random. You see some years the WHL is loaded with first rounders and years like this one they will only have a few. Besides Crosby, price and few other in 2005 that draft is horrible.

Strome is being undervalued in these trade proposals, but he went third, behind two generatlional talents and it seems like there is 3 this year
