I wouldn't be so sure. Presser today talked a lot about adding speed, and Geekie is probably the slowest player on the roster. Not to mention Sweeney has traded a guy who just had a good year for somebody with more upside before (Zacha/Haula).
And if Merkulov isn't gonna make the roster this year, at age 24, there's really no point in keeping him

Leafs - Realistic Offseason
Can't see the Bruins retaining on him for a rival when the whole point of moving him is to clear cap. And if they did, they definitely wouldn't help Toronto out with Jarnkrok's contract, which they do not want at all

The 2nd wouldn't be enough to get Boston to part with Frederic, even if they also weren't taking on one of the five worst contracts in the league in this trade as well

Bruins decline I'd say. The value isn't necessarily unfair, but the problem is that moving Carlo creates just as big a hole as Necas fills, if not bigger.

The defensive group is abominable without Carlo. Far better off not acquiring Stephenson and not moving Carlo

Radical Forward Retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ujeje</b></div><div>Any idea why Merkulov hasn't really got chance in NHL? Seems to be intriguing prospect and has played C with baby Bruins? And Boston has their lack of centers also.</div></div>
The Bruins need a 1C, and most players don't come out of the AHL and step right into that role. He probably could have done well at 3C this year, but the team has no shortage of 3C-calibre players.
They way I see it, he's NHL ready but he'll be blocked on Boston's roster next year by Poitras. Might as well give him a chance elsewhere because he isn't getting any younger.

Radical Forward Retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ujeje</b></div><div>Not a terrible offer for Frost, could at least see Danny thinking about this if they really like Merkulov.</div></div>
I think Geekie should be interesting to Briere too, given he's around Frost's age, similar cap hit and same term, and the fact that they have similar production. With Frost perpetually in Torts' doghouse, trading him for a numerically-similar forward with a blank slate with the coach seems like a no-brainer. Merkulov, I hope, makes up for the difference in potential between the two

I could see Utah if they want to speed up the rebuild, they have the assets to do it. Or PHI since they are lacking a starter. PITT and Colorado also come to mind.</div></div>
I have to imagine Utah is confident enough in Ingram. He had a great season. Colorado i can see. I have no idea what Pittsburghs direction will be this offseason, so maybe I can see it.

Smith doesn't do anything for Boston except impede them from re signing DeBrusk or finding someone better than both in FA. Like Gofnutt said, the 1st alone is plenty

I feel like the Bruins could spend 4.25M better than using it to push Poitras out for Wennberg, a distinctly okay 3C. Talbot and Lindhom both get more than this, I imagine. I like the idea of Dillon, though

I don't even see an honest attempt to get Boston interested in moving McAvoy here. a 1st round pick and an assortment of spare parts the Jackets can live without.

Boston 24-25
It's definitely not unrealistic, but I feel like this would be a bit of a disappointing offseason given the massive amount of cap space the team will have, especially if they trade Ullmark. They could push to land Guentzel or Reinhart and still have money left over to try and land a 1C next season. Also, as far as 2nd line/middle 6 guys go I think I'd prefer to keep DeBrusk than pursue Arvidsson, given the huge injury he suffered.

Flyers Offseason
The Bruins trade is antithetical to the teams needs. You've singled out some of the pieces Boston is the most keen to keep. I'm not gonna pretend Farabee is completely uninteresting but both Lohrei and Poitras, and Zacha all fill much more important needs for the team

Big Spending on Forwards
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>If I would have asked either of you at the beginning of the season who you’d realistically want to get to fill the void at center, I believe Elias Lindholm would have been the first or second name out of your mouth.
He had a down year, but him and Barkov were the two names that most reminded us of Patrice. If Sweeney still covets him, I’m fine with the decision especially with how he’s playing in the playoffs. I can see that fitting with Pasta fairly easily</div></div>
I've actually never been huge on Lindholm because while he's almost always good, he only shows that real second gear that makes him look like a 1C every few years. If anything I'm a little more amenable to signing him after a down year, hoping he comes at a more reasonable rate than the 9M he was reportedly expecting a year ago

Big Spending on Forwards
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>beantownboy17</b></div><div>In general, I think this is the approach the Bs take. They need skill guys, not just to take pressure of Pasta, but to lift him up. The issue is: I don't think E. Lindholm is that guy. He isn't a lights out skill guy but he is a natural center, which they need.
Also, I think Frost between Pasta and Zacha would be excellent. Then put Lindholm on the 2nd line with DeBrusk, Marchand, Coyle or some combination theirin for a shutdown 2 way line that can match up with the top offensive line.</div></div>
I'm not sold on Lindholm either, but its hard not to get the sense that Boston pursuing him is a foregone conclusion. If think if they really weaponize their cap space to build up the forward corps, Lindholm is gonna be on the top of their list of targets

Of there's any scenario where Bostob moves Ullmark to Toronto it involves a considerable overpay; this here would be a low ball from a non-rival

Toronto would have to overpay to get Boston to help them out, I suspect. They can get that price elsewhere.
