<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>Being terrible guarantees a top 5 pick, even if you lose the lottery. Would you trade Turcotte, Kaliyev, and another 1st and another 3rd for Laine? I wouldn't. Not to mention how bad it would suck if the Kings did actually win the lottery and lose out on Lafreniere. There is no lottery protection on offer sheets.
In my opinion, adding Laine to the mix immediately would be bad for the rebuild. The Kings would be a less terrible team next season, preventing them from getting another blue-chip prospect next June. They should be in full tank mode this season. The Kings had arguably the best draft out of any team in the NHL. Another draft like that and they're much better suited for the future than adding one player. Give the scouting staff another chance to work their magic.</div></div>
I will add as to why I know they won’t do it. If adding Laine means a playoff caliber team, then in retrospect the Carter, Martinez and Quick contracts won’t be moved. Which would be a mistake. I was only referencing arguments for adding him, and I’d bet that yes rather than the offer sheet that picks and etc. that can have conditions on them would be the better route. I’m all onboard though with keeping picks.

I agree with you I don’t think they will. My I’m only providing counter arguments, devils advocate if you may. Personally no, no chance Arthur and Alex aren’t trade-able nor even exercise the idea of it. Prospect provide no guarantees though. Gabe was suppose to be 2C already, and as we all know hasn’t even been on the ice lately. The potential for turcotte can be high but there is never a guarantee. With an addition of Laine you are in line to not give up that top 5 Pick is all I’m trying to point out. My argument was, adding Laine doesn’t put you in line to offer sheet compensation of a top 5 pick. Bounce back seasons from 11, 77(maybe), Toffoli, Doughty etc. and adding Laine you are looking at a playoff caliber team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>I would potentially trade for Laine including some combination of the Kings 2021 1st, 2020 2nd, a quality prospect not named Turcotte, and some lesser picks/prospects. However the Kings 2020 1st round pick should be off the table, meaning an offer sheet is off the table.</div></div>
No, totally understand the hesitancy to give up those assets. However, look at this last season, being bottom level doesn’t guarantee anything. My only arguments are, even given Laine’s inconsistency, he still put up 33 goals and that was considered a bad season. His production would have been 2nd leading scorer on the team, and that draft picks aren’t necessarily NHL ready. Don’t get me wrong I understand the sentiment of not wanting to give up assets, but, Laine immediately upgrades a position that a rookie(outside of a generational type) would be lucky to pop 20ish goals immediately. I agree though, think Blake will hold onto his picks because, of the uncertainty of Quick and Carter contracts in LA.

That’s my thinking also. Understand some want to keep the picks, however, even a streaky scorer can accelerate the rebuild/retool a little quicker. With Martinez and Carter coming off books in 2-3 seasons can season the prospects already in the line. Was just fun to insert Laine into the lineup.

Doughty
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>No but I'm saying one player isn't going to make the difference to the Leafs especially if the Leafs have give up Marner. It's much the same way folks fall over the Seth Jones...and CBJ has Werenski and a Savard or defence and Bobrovosky in net. Jones and his six NHL seasons, one playoff round victory. That one player a difference maker?</div></div>
If that player is a Norris caliber Dman then yes, absolutely he could be the difference. As an LA fan, after Doughty there is nothing. Younger LHD they have aren’t ready just yet. I agree that Doughty I would think will not sway from his NMC. A player like Jones or Doughty could very easily settle Toronto’s defense from mediocre to complete elite with one major player.

LA already has bad contracts, so Uncle Leo to LA they say no. Ho-Sang is interesting there. On Toffoli, to suggest Hickey(Whom they drafted) at 30 and 3 yrs left and considering the youth LHD LA has, that’s another big no. I think it’s gonna take at least a 2nd and prospect to pry Toffoli away from Los Angeles.

Trades with LAK VGK MTL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chris1022</b></div><div>Now he’s a UFA at the end of the year. Clearly the first for TT wasnt going over. They could use defense. Especially if Doughty gets moved, they will probably get Leddy. Maybe the 4th the isles send is a 2nd or 3rd. They also are sending JHS which is worth a 3rd.</div></div>
That LA trade actually makes some sense. As mentioned before believe LA was asking a 1st for Toffoli yet, clearly I don't think there are any takers at this time. Secondly, Doughty wont get moved, he's got NMC. LA has some young LHD coming but Leddy could fill the void until then, if not try him out on the right side. Leddy would essentially spell the end of Forbort and Martinez in Los Angeles.
