'LA gets younger, Toronto sells out for a cup this year'. You mean the same Doughty who has won one playoff game since 2014? No the Leafs stays younger and better . NMC Doughty, very much doubt he leaves his home in California.

No but I'm saying one player isn't going to make the difference to the Leafs especially if the Leafs have give up Marner. It's much the same way folks fall over the Seth Jones...and CBJ has Werenski and a Savard or defence and Bobrovosky in net. Jones and his six NHL seasons, one playoff round victory. That one player a difference maker?

If that player is a Norris caliber Dman then yes, absolutely he could be the difference. As an LA fan, after Doughty there is nothing. Younger LHD they have aren’t ready just yet. I agree that Doughty I would think will not sway from his NMC. A player like Jones or Doughty could very easily settle Toronto’s defense from mediocre to complete elite with one major player.

If Doughty wanted Toronto, He'd have signed there as a UFA. He wants to stay in LA. He's not moving.

If a team was going to offer sheet Marner it would have fallen under the max of 10.5, which the compensation would have been two 1st one each 2nd and 3rd. Did you not pay attention to the Habs offer sheet to Aho? Just below 8.5 which meant the compensation award was one each of 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Doughty's work ethic without the puck is exactly what T.O is missing on their Defence, Doughty would be a significant upgrade on that Blueline he'd be a better option than Jones, Doughty has Lidstrom quality smarts. He is exactly what the Leafs Blueline needs now and over the next 6 years, the last 2 years of that contract will be a little painful but probably worth it.

Yeah yeah yeah all the comments are right and wrong at the same time. The only thing that matters is that if Leafs are willing to essentially pay Doughty 11M a year, they would be willing to pay Marner that too so why is the deal happening?

Leafs don't want to pay anyone 11M a year but if they do, it'll be Marner.

This wouldnt be Doughty's choice this would be LA realizing theyre going to waste the remainder of his best years and kick off a retool by getting a young elite forward for him

Except Doughty has a full NMC and isn't going anywhere unless he wants to. So it is 100% Doughty's choice.

I can see Toronto trading for Doughty in 4 years once his NMC expires. He gets a modified NTC at that point and I can guarantee Toronto would be on his acceptable trade list. $11M in 2023 would be like $8M today with cap increases and inflation.

Until then, Doughty to anywhere isn't happening.

His destination would be his choice, but LA wanting him would not be his choice. I think he would waive to go home and help his former team

LA isn't ever going to not want him. They might decide that there is a deal that could be made to improve the future, but that doesn't mean he's not wanted. I'm sure Blake would have discussions with Doughty ahead of time to see if it was something he wanted to explore, but if he said no, the talks wouldn't even begin with Dubas.

What is his former team? Doughty has said numerous times that he was a Kings fan throughout his childhood.
