Another stab at it
Why would you send more assets to Vgs unnecessarily? Just offer sheet Roy with same term and cap hit and only lose a 2nd. Trading at this point is redundant, if this was a week or two ago to get sole negotiation rights then maybe; as of midnight anyone can make Roy an offer so by trading now you only get a window of hours to sign him.

Buyouts don't count as part of the 3 max allowed salary retention contracts.

Hopeful offseason moves

Also, if Burns has a market, Myers definitely has one although lower return coming back. Send Poolman out if needed to save cap on three years.</div></div>
Not sure what the problem is/what you are getting at regarding the retaining of contracts. Teams are allowed 3 per year, not planning on retaining any more this year and Miller's disappears next year so........?

Who beats this team
Bergeron is playing for Bos or no one. He may get dealt at the deadline to chase a cup if Bos is out of it, but that's the only way he plays for any other team.

VAN For the rest of the offseason
Just curious how you plan to have the team cap compliant at the start of the season. What everyone here seems to be missing/forgetting is that Ferland can not be moved to LTIR until after the season starts, therefore you need to account for his 3.5M cap day 1 of the season. Giving that much to both Petey and Hughes, there is no way the team is cap compliant while having the min 20 man roster to open the season. PS I don't think there is going to be a taxi squad this year where you can bury money, that was a one time thing.

This is how much Hughes and Petey will sign for
I agree with the short term bridge deal in this "flat cap" world we're in but I think your numbers are very optimistic and on the low end. I think they will both sign 2 or 3 yr deals around 7M aav (not necessarily matching deals)

No Buyout or Trades Needed
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tmclean64</b></div><div>I agree Boeser is the better option on line 1, but I dont think Jake is responsible enough defensively to play line 2..... I dont think anyone deserves to be in the top 6 over Jake.</div></div>
Well if you don't think Jake is responsible enough to be on your 2nd line then he would have to slot in on the 3rd, Jake is not and never will be a top line player. Based on your roster I'd re-organize the entire right side to that it would look like: 1st - Boeser, 2nd - Motte, 3rd - Virtanen, 4th - MacEwen. Motte showed enough in the playoffs that he has more potential then a 3rd/4th line checker/grinder and PKer, give him a chance at an expanded role on the 2nd with BO and Pearson and see what happens. If it doesn't work then there are other options. I just don't see Jake being a fit with Miller and Petty and benefiting their games.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tmclean64</b></div><div>Louie buyout saves 1M the following year but adds 1M the year after</div></div>
Waiving him in 21-22 saves 1.12M with no cap hit in 22-23 vs the 2M savings from a buyout in 21-22 plus the 1M cap hit in 22-23. If he spends the entire year in the minors this year and is told that he will do the same next year, hopefully he will agree to terminate his contract!

Not bad, looks decent. I 100% agree that any buyout is the wrong play here, as is trading Loui with a "sweetener". I'd even argue against buying out Loui next year, there'll be next to no difference in cap savings vs waiving him next year and you save cap hit the year after. I also wouldn't have Jake on the top line, my 2 cents
