Parayko trade and contracts reasonable
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EHPower27</b></div><div>Zaitsev and Brown are mostly for salary purposes, the main asset for the Blues is the 1st and a former 2nd big D prospect</div></div>
That is not enough for a top pairing defenceman who is 25 years old at a very reasonable cap hit.

Trouba offer sheet if Marner is offer sheeted
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TavaresIsALeaf</b></div><div>Offer sheeting Provorov would be good but Flyers would match because they have cap space. i have a general knoeledge of most teams salary cap situations. I was just saying it would be nice to have provorov because he is already better than trouba and he is around the same age as marner

The only Pietrangelo trade that makes sense to me
i agree that the need for some magical #1 RHD is way overblown. I think if they were to trade willy for a defenseman it makes more sense to me to go for a younger guy with some term like a Parayko or Pesce as you mentioned.

Rosen re signed
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>This is a great deal for the leafs. Looks to me like they are getting loose ends tied up to get their cap settled for next year. Think that Rosen took the deal to make him a viable candidate for the roster. If Borgman wants 1.5m and Rosen takes half that.... guess who’s playing for the leafs and guess who’s being moved....
My bad, I thought you were rxtending him in the off season. QO has to be a 10% increase but signing him before he hits rfa allows them to go lower. This is a great move. Rosen has been killing it this year. Sorry about the one star...?would have gave you 2... signing hainsey may not be a good idea. If he wants to sign for 750k then yes maybe.</div></div>
it wasn't my post, i just commented about hainsey originally

Also that contract to Rosen is not allowed by cba... 10% pay increase you decreased his pay by nearly 200k...</div></div>
The leafs actually just extended Rosen to that contract so it's official. I agree, Hainsey has been all around bad this year

That is not true at all, we could could re-sign Borgman or Marincin for less than $1 million and both are very capable of playing the PK.

why are so many people re-signing Hainsey. He has been awful all year and is one of the slowest players in a league that gets faster every year. I would be shocked if anyone signs him next year.

Toronto doesn't need a RD as a 6th or 7th man. They have 4 of those. They need one as a top 4 which Rutta is not.

Marleau will be traded this summer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sebski</b></div><div>my theory behind it is that the way the contract is set up is a tradable contract</div></div>
doesn't metter how tradeable the contract is, the reason there is a NMC is the exact reason why your explanation of the trade doesn't make sense. He wants to win a cup not be sent to a team near the cap floor.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sebski</b></div><div>he doesnt he has a NMC which he can waive</div></div>
meant to say NMC... why would he waive it, the reason he signed in toronto was to win a cup before he retires and no other contenders have the cap room for him plus he would have to agree to go there. Not saying impossible but very unlikely

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>henryp</b></div><div>If I am leafs I would go to Marleau and beg him to accept a trade and keep Gardiner.</div></div>
very unlikely marleau accepts a trade... gardiner is most likely going to get a bit overpaid by some team and would be too expensive even if the leafs traded marleau plus after next year marleau is off the books and the leafs will have quite a bit of cap space to find a defenseman or two

Patching the D
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>so, LTIR isn't unlimited. I don't know the exact numbers, but teams can only exceed the upper limit by so much every year (maybe, 10 or 15 percent). This includes performance bonuses and LTIR. Adding another 5.3 to that number puts the leafs in a dangerous spot, if not over.</div></div>
yeah it was just a thought to get the leafs out of the zaitsev contract. Horton is expiring after next year so it would only be one year where they might be close to the limit.

Sustr
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>Better at offense, for sure. Not as solid defensively yet, but Liljegren will be a solid two way defenseman soon. Defense is something you learn through practice a bit, and in the NHL you get a lot of practice if you can put up points.... unless your team is stocked up on more experienced defensemen and winning a lot of very close games.
Liljegren is the only right shot you mentioned. I think teams win a few more games a year if they have right shots on the right side at evens, because breakouts are easier, and keep-ins are easier that way. The Leafs currently have Zaitsev, Hainsey, and Holl in terms of right shots on the team, with Liljegren, Loverde, and Subban in the system. It's possible they find a cheap UFA next summer and get by, but a lot of Leafs fans talk about wanting more young stars to grow up together with their core. I think Bowey's a very skilled guy with a bit to learn about positional play, and the Caps have no interest in blowing up his offensive numbers this year because they have no cap space and a bunch of important RFAs next summer (Burakovsky, Vrana, and Djoos), followed by some superstar UFAs the next two years (Backstrom, Holtby, Niskanen, and Ovechkin). While Carolina may have had Fleury swinging for the fences, just to see what he could do, Bowey put up slightly more offense on a team that basically can't afford to keep him if he breaks out in the power play specialist role he's best suited for. I would look at him as a younger, cheaper Miller.</div></div>
I agree with what you're saying but you forgot about Igor Ozhiganov who is currently playing 3rd pair RD for the leafs. He's a bit of a shutdown guy with a good transition game and they have him playing woith dermott who is more of and offensive defenseman so i don't think they would want to have to young offensive minded guys playing third pair at this time.
