Good young core
Bonus points for the most realistic/reasonable Girard trade I've seen on CF. I think the Avs would want someone who could make the jump now, but Greig would be a nice pick up. I'd also want the 2nd to be 2023.

At $6-6.5m, I'd go 5-6 years. Cap will go up soon and that's a deal you can get out of near the end if you have to. If he wants $7m and above, then yeah, I'm probably out. Doesn't mean I'm settling for Dvorak though.

His possession metrics are terrible, struggles to stay healthy, and has never eclipsed 40 points. Why in god's name would you give up an asset like Girard, a top-4 defenseman signed at a team-friendly deal for the next five years, for him? I'd rather take futures and sign Kadri than settle for Dvorak

Agree to disagree. He's played well in Florida, no doubt, but he's not worth Girard.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Joxu</b></div><div>Yes, I do care to explain. Avalanche signed Manson to an extension which I think drops Girard out of their top 4, I dont see that top 4 changing in the next few years either so paying 5 million to a third pairing guy is really steep so that's why I think they will move him. What they need is a 2nd line center and what you're probably going to argue is that they have Kadri. That's fair, but do they want to sign a 31 year old to a 6+ million dollar extension with term who I cant see being able to replicate last season success? What they get in Bennett is a pretty young 2nd line center with term and a reasonable cap hit who plays a very similar game compared to Kadri. It's fair to think that Florida gets the better package here considering everything so I can see there being some midround picks to balance it out, but it looks prettier as a 1 for 1, so I put that.</div></div>
Agree on all counts aside from the fact that you think Bennett is a 2C. He's not. He had a great year, but one year of production doesn't get you a top-4 D signed with term. Now, if we're talking Reinhart instead of Bennett? That's a hell of a lot closer. As is, it's a "hell no" from the Avs.

You're getting a great young prospect and a 1st for Weegar, but somehow Girard, a top-4 defenseman signed for a team-friendly deal for the next five years, only gets Sam Bennett.
Care to explain?

I feel like after girards playoff injury byram took his spot over for this year beside manson. I also think it would be a mistake to pay your 5/6 dman a total of 11 million
If your moving for a player like kane you can move rantanen to 2C and put kane of the RW and have a great top6 F and top 4 D</div></div>
I think Rants is fine at 2C, but it's clearly not his natural position. And while adding the top-6 forward is nice, devoting $4m to Nino on your third line leaves you with MacDermid as your 6th D. Tend to think we could sign a couple of depth defensemen to fill that corps out with the money you have going to Nino

If Girard is dealt, I see two possibilities: 1) dealt for a 2C a la the Barrie - Kadri trade, or 2) dealt for futures and a young roster player with the assumption a Kadri extension is in hand. There's just no way they deal G for a winger. You've gone from too much on defense to too much on offense. Need to strike a balance somewhere.

Lehky probably gets more than that. One of, if not both of Marchment/Rodrigues is too much. Compher plays third line and Ben Myers can as well. Fourth liner probably comes cheaper and with less term anyway. Saves you cash that you could throw at Manson, and/or Byram/Newhook next year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HatterTParty</b></div><div>Let’s look at both sides of this:
To be fair, hawks fans have all had to swallow a great deal of pride because of the scandal. Kane and toews have even gone on record to defend stan bowman the person, which is just baffling to me. Yes, they committed crimes covering this up and those people deserve their own pit in hell. However, to his point, he cheers the players and that is an important distinction. We don’t have to love the people who run the team to love the players that represent it. Me personally, I hate everyone involved with the team now. I represent the side that is so disgusted I lost my complete love for the team.
Now the other side. I don’t care what religion, politics, etc. a person believes in, nothing breaks human instinct and emotion. While I was always taught “hate” is a strong word, I recognize a few things in life that inspire such an emotion. Sports is quite possibly the most significant. I don’t care if someone wishes ill will on another, especially if that other deserves it. The hawks truly deserve it. They ruined people’s lives. Plain and simple. Wishing that Ill will is not a defect of the person wishing it, it’s a reflection of someone wishing for some decency and good in the world.
Just my opinion. Neither side is wrong. Just passionate and opinionated.</div></div>
I'll never wish ill-will on anyone and while I sympathize with fans of the Blackhawks, I am steadfast in my position to root against that team as a result of their actions. Players (Toews & Kane) knew about it and did nothing. Moreover, I will never root for a team who tanks to win the draft lottery. Same was true for the Sabres in the McDavid sweepstakes. Is it the way to get back to winning? Yeah, but come on, it's a disservice to fans everywhere.

Just don't see the fit if I'm being honest. Toews makes more sense given the hole at 2C, but I think any deal would have to involve a 3rd team eating more salary. Avs will be up against the cap this year and pulling in anywhere from $5 - $10m along with signing our UFAs/RFAs would be a challenge.

That's what happens when you play in the dog**** division that is likely to only get worse once Gaudreau leaves Calgary. If Holland plays his cards right, EDM could be much improved next year, but history says he'll do something stupid.
