Hurricanes dream team
Lots of issues here.
-Love Nylander and want him in Carolina but I wouldn’t move Seth for him, and I wouldn’t want to move Pesce either but I guess they have to with the awful Orlov move
-massive overpay for Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson, who are washed. And Even if you got them for free I still think the fans wouldn’t be pleased to see Tom Wilson in a canes jersey.
-I don’t think they’d get a third for Teuvo given his form, and it especially wouldn’t come from Chicago.
-TDA would probably ask for at least 2M.
Hope this helps

Another Kent Hughes draft lesson
I wouldn’t give up that much for PLD, the Jets don’t have very much leverage if he’s as serious about not signing with them and signing in MTL as rumours say, he’ll probably cost something but not that much. Also wouldn’t pay him that much because I don’t think he’s actually very good. I also disagree with the idea of trading that many picks and prospects because this team is still not ready to compete and the players you’re trading for aren’t really needed at this point. Not sure about that return for Keller but I’m not too familiar with the guy.

As Much As I Hate The Oilers This Could Help
I don’t see Philly trading Hart and I don’t see Oilers wanting him either. Skinner is Edmonton’s guy, Hart is Philly’s guy. They should definitely find a way to dump Campbell though. What an awful contract. Other than that I don’t think EDM gets much for Ceci and I don’t think Columbus would move Texier for Yamamoto. Texier is probably the 1C in that team

Lousy picks for Patrik Laine are more laughable. Columbus passes as well.</div></div>
I’d have say that’s more than likely. Not sure if it’s worth increasing the offer for Hellebuyck and I would increase the offer for Laine but I’m not totally sure what his value is. Any ideas what a more realistic value would be?

For me I’d definitely be willing to pay more than 1 fourth if the Canucks get a better offer. Just not sure they will. Management seems to be very high on moving Garland immediately for some reason so I think Canes could and should steal him

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>njlaforte</b></div><div>So you are signing Freddy then flipping him for Hellebuyck. Jets are looking for young players with team control... not old goalies that if they really want they can sign in FA.</div></div>
Fair enough point. I don’t really know what Winnipeg’s plan is considering they’re a playoff team but barely. In that case I’d trade Andersen for picks/prospects and try to use that for the Helly deal. Or if winnipeg have significantly better options on the table just keep Freddie cause he isn’t that much worse

Staying young but adding Helly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Greysuits</b></div><div>Gudas will provide protection for Power and make him more comfortable next season. Helly will take pressure of Levi and let him develop at a slower rate. Joki is a 4/5 defender that can be replaced so I'm not worried about giving him up to get the best goalie in the league.</div></div>
The idea is solid but I’m not sure about the value given up. Like I could see bringing in a bigger dman to mentor and take heat off Power but I’m not sure Gudas at 5.5 for 2 years is the answer. I’d recommend Luke Schenn who may or may not be available because the Canucks basically did the exact same thing with him and Quinn Hughes and it worked really well. And yeah Hellebuyck is good and they also shouldnt pile pressure on Levi but I’m not sure about trading UPL and both a second and first to get him

IMO It doesn’t make sense to trade UPL to get Hellebuyck and get rid of Jokiharju and to sign gudas to 5.5. This team hasn’t made the playoffs yet, and a lot of these guys haven’t got a chance to prove themselves yet, isnt it a little soon to be signing vets to expensive contracts/trading young guys and draft capital to get them, especially when Power and Dahlin are entering contract years?

Getting over the hump
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Moving Skjei is not the answer, and moving him to overpay Klingberg definitely is counterproductive. The Canes don’t need an elite goalie like Helly, they just need whichever of Freddie/Raanta/Koochie to stay healthy. I mean, the Canes were lacking a ton of offense throughout these playoffs, yet in the series against Florida, Florida never ran away with any of the games, as they all ended as 1 goal games. As long as whichever goalie(s) are healthy come playoff time, the defensive system makes up for not having an elite goaltender. Selling off the entirety of future firsts, albeit late picks, is not a good idea, when all you get in return is Laine. Damn good offensive player, but the Canes shouldn’t be looking to acquire 1D players who would be a terrible fit in the system. It’s not like the other trades are any better either. Moving Martinook and Noesen for pennies on the dollar after this year is a mistake, especially with how valuable they have been this year.
I don’t mind the Garland move, as he would be an excellent fit, and he is an analytical darling, so right up the Canes MO. That being said, I don’t think he is the answer. Someone who has a bit more of an edge would be a better acquisition, but Garland would be a decent backup plan. Ghost is not a 3rd pairing guy, he is only playing 3LD on the Canes due to the guys ahead of him. And any thought of him even considering that deal is pure delusion. At minimum, he makes 3mil, and that’s if he is taking a discount. His offense dropped when he arrived in Carolina, but he improved his defensive game tenfold. Not to mention, this year’s LHD UFA class is quite weak, so I could see him getting close to 5mil from a desperate team. Patches is also likely to be ready for training camp, so he won’t be on LTIR, which leads to being over the cap ceiling, with only a 21 man roster. It’s not sustainable. As for Staal, I could see him taking a discount like that to stay with the Canes, but I think he almost certainly gets 2.5-3mil.
Overall, you have destroyed the Canes biggest strengths in their dcore, cap flexibility, and their big pool of future assets. The bottom 6 is a bit better, and also has a bit more bite. The forward core is now completely top heavy, which is something the Canes have been trying to avoid. Klingberg replacing Skjei is a massive downgrade. And whilst Helly is an elite goalie, it makes no sense to make the move for him when the Canes wouldn’t be able to afford him. No cap space, and with the next off season being the time to sign several core members (Aho, Jarvis, Necas, Pesce, and for the sake of argument for this scenario, Turbo and Helly), at least 2 of those pieces have to be let go. And future picks have been sacrificed for 1 year of a cup that still isn’t guaranteed. It’s several steps in the wrong direction.
I hope you understand why I said this was terrible.</div></div>
Noted. Upon further review, it looks like klingberg was actually a lot worse than I thought. I thought he was still good and just held back by Anaheim’s horrid structure. But it turns out he was actually far and away the biggest problem of all the Anaheim Dmen. But that fact could also be useful.
Also upon further review was that Brady Skjei was more valuable than the eye test showed. So I think I wouldn’t trade him going forward.
About Gostisbehere, I think he’ll have to walk if he wants any serious money, he’s honestly mid and there’s no reason to pay him much just to be on the third pair anyways.
I’d still like to acquire Laine, you can say he’s one dimensional but honestly Carolina needs a guy who can just shoot, plus he still has the physical size to be a decent power forward if he applied himself (unlikely). Also trading for him doesn’t completely destroy the future as he’s still young enough to play for like a decade in Carolina. I am also not really hostile to trading all the picks because the prospect pool is large and they’re in a situation where they won’t really need reinforcement from outside the established prospects and free agency. So I think it’s worth it.
About helle honestly they could stick with Andersen and be fine, but I really feel like he could be special in Carolina.
And about the cap I think they could always trade people if they needed more cap space. Even Hellebuyck could be traded once Kochetkov is ready to start, but having him for 2 years could prove invaluable.
Anyways, I’m going to make another roster taking what I’ve learned and making a more sensical plan. I’ll probably post it tomorrow, see you all soon.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Farabee</b></div><div>Trading Skjei just to completely overpay for Klingberg is.... interesting to say the least</div></div>
The idea is they could get a late first which will either be used in future trades or make up for capital spent in future trades, and with Klingberg I think he could inject offence to a team that needs it, and as far as his salary goes I’m not sure how many teams will target him in FA so I thought it might be worthwhile to overpay in order to ensure we get the guy, just because they have the money

The reason I chose Philadelphia is because they seem to like trading picks for dmen (Ristolainen and Deangelo trade) but really as long as Carolina gets a decent return that enables them to target laine and/or Hellebuyck it doesn’t matter where he goes, Philly just came to mind.
