Montreal Canadiens 18-19 push for a cup.
Of course Arizona is sitting there with over $30M+ in cap space so maybe the offer him $15M and then add Neal, Perron, Marchessault and Carlssson...instant contender, no?
Or Tavares pulls a Stamkos and signs for under market value....I dunno, these are all for fun I guess as every team would want to dream of a team with a stud C on it....unless you already have 1 or 2 of course.

It's not that easy for CLB....they have to deal with their own RFA's (Jenner and Bjorkstand), plus bring in 3 more D....not to mention they have to leave room for a Werenski extension....so their situation isn't as good as it may seem despite the number. MTL will have $16M (and if they can dump Shaw's contract another $4M on top of that) with all of it to spend on forwards. Despite being a fan, I have no confidence that they will use this money correctly and will end up doing something dumb. From a Tavares perspective, I agree, there isn't much to entice him unless you sell the existing core of Price and Weber (who he's played with on Team Canada) and then sell the usual stuff like the last missing piece, key to the city, blah, blah...

Leafs 2019/20
Plus by that time you will need to pay Mathews and Nylander so I would add another $18M to your payroll at the least....plus if you're planning on keeping JVR, same thing, tac on some more money. Ekholm is a guy they need but you need to consider the substantial contracts that are upcoming for the Leafs.

dedede 2017
The addition of Ryan helps the Sens out quite a bit as it's a pretty bad and lengthy contract....unfortunately, so get rid of a contract like that you do have to give up a pretty solid asset. I'm not sure why Hoffman toils on the 3rd line all the time so maybe it does make sense....I think if that's the case MTL at the very least has to add a 1st or a better prospect....yeah not sure about this one. I do like the Pacioretty deal. Make no mistake outside of Montreal, Pacioretty turns into John Leclair....

Moving forward
The concept of trading down like in the NFL draft rarely works in the NHL, especially if you are looking at trading a top 5 pick...STL is tearing it up and PHI would be a 10-15 pick so IMO, the Sabres wouldn't make this deal just to acquire another 1st....especially if you need impact players....chances are much lower that you find an impact player outside of the top 10....plus the Sabres did a bad job converting their previous bunch of picks (during Murray's run)....I would take the sure thing and stick with a top 5.

Insert Doughty
Barrie is an elite offensive defenceman, make no mistake. If he was playing on a contender he's putting up 60pts...if Sakic held out for 6 assets for Duchene, I don't think he will give Barrie away for Bracco and a 3rd (3 years from now)....

Insert Doughty
Colorado is dying for defencemen, not sure why they would entertain the Barrie deal...that does nothing for them. I think you are low balling Nylander and Marner....plus I think Matthews signs for closer to McDavid money than Kopitar money....that being said, I think Doughty is a real possibility....he is exactly what they need
