If that's the best deal Marner's agent is able to get from TOR, he'll be fired on the spot. He doesn't deserve anything less than L.Draisaitl. And please anyone, don't throw the "centers makes more than wingers" argument since it had clearly been demonstrated, in the past, that it is not the case in 50% of the time (by me, in particular : see this <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/163186&post_id=565382">https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/163186&post_id=565382</a> reply #13).
If you compare the 2 players (production, ice-time, Pts/60min, draft position, player pedigree, etc), there's really no way Marner is worth 7M$ & Draisaitl 8.5M$. And if we go by cap %...Marner SHOULD get more than 8.5M$ (9 007 350M$ exactly if Marner also gets 11.33% of the cap). I'd say 8.3 to 8.5M$ is what he ends up having.

All indications shows that Byron will be ready for puck drop. Shaw might be ready by the end of October. Weber probably won't be back before christmas. I think that chances are high Habs sign Després, who's on PTO. He's a RHD, can skate and have a good first pass + he'll be cheap (guessing 850-900K$) AND he's french canadian. I think Juulsen plays top minutes in Laval this season again and joins the Habs full time in 2019-2020. It would be best for his developpment than to play with the dreaded Karl Alzner lol

For one, I think Byron alone could fetch you that much at the TDL, but Schlemko wouldn't fetch you more than a 5th or a 6th round pick.
For the Pacioretty trade, I could see that happening at the deadline.
For Niemi in ANA, you're guessing that either Miller or Gibson will get hurt long term? Also, I think Neimi leaves for more than that, maybe a 3rd or a 4th, depending on his on-ice performance. If it's anything like last year, definitely a 3rd round pick.
I would play Peca on your roster. He'll be a very good bottom 6 player, imho. I really don't think Kotkaniemi makes the teams for good after the 7-8-9 games early season stint. He'll be on the roster next season though!

People need to stop being pricks and start undestanding that there's more than one "good" answer to GM's problems. Remember that the point of this whole thing is to put fans together to <strong>DEBATE</strong> over what teams should or shouldn't do in the future, not laugh at everyone who don't think like you do...
Sorry about this rant...I had to intervene.

So that gives them 27.7M$ of free cap space to resign Wheeler/Laine/Connor/Copp/Tanev/Chiarot/Brossoit/Dano (Myers is walking, 100% sure). It's doable, but only by trading either one of Little or Pearreault for picks & prospects ONLY (no money on the books in return). Not THAT hard to do. Both players are still pretty usefull.
8M$ for Wheeler, 10M$ for Laine, 6M$ for Connor, 1.5M$ for Copp, 1.7M$ for Tanev, 850K$ for Dano, 700K$ for Brossoit or E.Comrie, 1.5M$ for Chiarot. For a total of 29.25M$ (over the cap by 1.55M$). Then trade out let's say Perreault & his 4.125M$ and you're at 2.575M$ under the 83M$ cap with 22 roster players.
2.575M$ to add one player is more than enough. There you have it ?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mcoach69</b></div><div>i did and it works out to 85.9 with 22 contracts and no GM is going to cut a team that close IMO</div></div>
I made a small mistake (1M$), but it still work.
8+ 10 = 18 / 18 + 6 = 24 / 24 + 1,5 = 25,5 / 25,5 + 1,7 = 27,2 / 27,2 + 0,85 = 28,05 / 28,05 + 0.7 = 28,75 / 28,75 + 1,5 = 30,25.
That's 30,25M$ of cap hit, not 29,25M$ like I previously wrote (2.55M$ over the cap). So, by shedding Perreault's contract (4.125M$), they'd have 1.575M$ of cap space to add a rookie : say, Lemieux at 839K$, they'd then have 736K$ of cap space. That is very narrow, you're right, so they'd maybe have to move Little instead of Perreault (it would create +1.16M$ of cap space to make it 1.896M$) or try and ask Wheeler & Laine to take small pay cuts of 400-500K$ each or bridge K.Connor.
Still, it only shows that it is possible and it would/will not be "that" hard to do. They'll just face some hard decisions in a who to keep who to move sense and ask their players to sacrifice a tiny little bit of $$ for the well being of the team long term. And for the potential of keeping a team as cup contender for the foreseeable future, players tend to make those kinds of concessions (S.Stamkos & his 8.5M$ cap hit, N.Kucherov & his 9.5M$ cap hit, S.Crosby and his 8.7M$ cap hit, etc.)

I like it. One of the rare good Leafs 2019-2020 projection I've seen in here for a long time! Good job! I like the Montour trade, though the 3rd pick going to TOR wouldn't be included if Silfverberg was (Montour + Silfverberg for Nylander + 3rd pick 2020). Top 4 RHD are a very rare commodity and usually go for a more than they actually are worth.
All in all, contract are great (I totally hate Coburn, but for one year, it's worth a shot), they are fair in value and terms, the lines are well balanced. Again, thumbs up ?

It's possible to make this scenario fit under an 83M$ cap next season (2019-2020), but for that, it's imperative that either Little or Perreault is move for picks & prospects only (no money on the books back). With an extension agreed upon before the trade, take out the '20 2nd round pick & '21 5th round pick and it's a fair trade (EK65 resigned for H.Lindholm + J.Silfverberg +J.Larsson + ANA '19 1st round pick).
Without an extension, ANA is overpaying a lot. Also, I'd say ANA do it by sending a bad contract the other way (Eaves or Kesler) to help, $$ wise, with the 2019 EK65 extension.

It would have to be verified, but not all contract are insured. That's what I read from different sources (previous agents & hockey insiders tweets and from different broadcast I watched over the years). For example, I heard that the N.Horton contract isn't insured so it's the team who must pay the player salary and it's not the only case like that. Duchene and Pacioretty can't be sign to 8 years deal. 7 years is the maximum for a UFA that you don't own the rights.
He'll have about 17M$ free, next season to resign Athanasiou, Faksa, Nishushkin, Tierney & Hintz (who, right now, makes a combined salary of 12M$). At least 4 of them will get raises so no, that's not happening.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Goldendelicious</b></div><div>With Sekera its not about LTIR cap space...OTT.
Getting Lucic "saves" the Sens about 4mill. Not really significant because if that was the case. You're assuming Lucic will be easier to move than Ryan, not the case.
Sekera was not a great defender before and now has an achilles injury to deal with which will affect his value the next two seasons. He MIGHT return to form for the final year of his contract. Besides he has a NMC and is not going to waive to go to EDM.
Paying players north of 10mill is not ridiculous when the salary cap is going up year after year. Top players now are negotiating based total cap percentage. The only way EK doesn't sign 11 or higher would be because he signs in a tax-free state.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Davisoc</b></div><div>First of all Sekera goes right on LTIR, so not a problem. Lucic will be easier to move long term VS Ryan. And 9.5mill is top dollar. Its just not ridiculous money like north of 10.</div></div>
OTT is trying to lower the amount of dollars the give out to players. Having Sekera on LTIR doesn't change a thing for them since they ARE paying him his salary anyway.
For the Ryan vs Lucic debate, they already have 4 years of high dollars owed to deadweight Ryan, why would they want to switch that for deadweight Lucic?? They're only interested in taking in contracts with high AAV but low salary left. For example, a 7 years contract at 7M$ AAV with 3 years left with annual salaries of 5M$-4M$-3.5M$. It gives them 7M$ of cap hit for 3 years (21M$ total) while only having to pay 12.5M of real dollars (8.5M$ in actual savings). Also, they do NOT want contract with signing bonuses since they are a cost efficient team and doesn't have the ressources big teams have to pay big dollars on july 1st.
PLUS : Lucic has a full NMC for another 3 years. There's absolutely no way he accepts to go to bottom feeder OTT. Hell, B.Ryan has a 10 team NTC too and EDM might as well be on it!

Yep, forgot about that. Still, Peca will not be worth squat next season. And the kids will not all start at center. The biggest majority of rookie centers starts on the wing to adapt to the pace of the game. Poehling and/or Kotkaniemi is definitely starting on the wing (I think Poehling finish his University before joining the NHL, so he won't be on the team before 2021). You'll need Peca for the 4th line.
And for Hudon, no way he's expandable next season. If, baring a miracle, he becomes expandable, it'll mean that the Habs rookies and young players had an incredible 2018-2019 season with 4 or 5 of them scoring 40-50pts combine with Hudon having an horrible season, thus making the kids all moving ahead of C.H. on the teams ranking...what are the possibility of that happening this season?? 1 out of 10 000? 1 out of 50 000? 1 out of 100 000? It's not happening.

So what? He is on the team, whether you like it or not (you have no reasons not to like it considering you don't even know the player). And no, we don't have a lot of 3rd line center. Danault would be considered a 3rd line center on the top15 teams in the league but he plays 2nd line center in MTL. Pleky is now a 4th line centerman, just like JDLR. Drouin & Domi aren't even center but they'll probably alternate 1st line center all season.
So Peca perfectly fits them at the 3rd line center position. Again, wait 'till you've seen him play 20-25 gamrs to judge. No matter what, Habs are a lottery team in '18-'19 so better let young players with upside play.

You're right. After tearing up the AHL for 2 seasons, then ending up with 30pts in his first NHL campain (in 72 games or 0.42pt/game) while playing on the 3rd & 4th line of a bottom 5 NHL team and still only being 24 years old, he's not good enough for the Habs...(sarcasm alert)
There would be ABSOLUTELY NO REASONS for the Habs to not qualify Hudon, next season nor to drop him in the minors. Maybe a trade, but for something meaningful and helpfull. He's an excellent young player with great offensive upside. I really don't understand why you're saying that he's not important and should be shown the door.
