Habs 2021-22 w Jones
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JP_knows_it_all</b></div><div>THIS! Exactly THIS! His line-up is 2 players short with only 1.1M$ of cap space left. PLUS, there's no big contract coming off the book, the next year, with those players needing big raises (Jones-Suzuki-Romanov). This exercice requires a little bit of foreshadowing....some seems to forget about that important fact :(</div></div>
Jones will get top money or term, probably not both. Romanov? I am not sure what kind of $$$ you imagine he'll get, but unless there is a marked improvement next season (year 3 of his ELC), he'll get a modest bridge that starts with a "2". Suzuki is a more interesting question. His numbers suggest a Domi-like contract, which is $5.3M. He'd get something close to that if the Habs can get 5 years of term from him. Otherwise, he'll get 2-3 years in the high 3s and go for the big number on his next contract.

No shot you get roslovic. One of the few players in the league who wanted to be jackets before being traded there. You could maybe get domi but that’s a strong maybe.

Every single one of those ufas are being underpaid. After Spezzas great season no way he signs for less then 2 mill and if you say he will stay to be on a cup contender then you are stupid toronto is a first round exit contender. Hyman can get 5-5.8 mil on the market don’t seem him taking a 1.8 mill discount. Foligno is still worth 3.5 mill with the leadership, physicality and net presence he brings. Forbort it will sign for close to 2 mill aswell, nice try though bud but no one is taking discounts for Toronto every realizes they are a bunch of choke artists now also no way after kerfoots playoff play that they take dermott over him. Dermott is not panning out, kerfoot was one of Toronto’s bring spots, Seattle will definitely take kerfoot or holl or Brodie whatever dman toronto leaves exposed

All plausible destinations AND contracts for top UFAs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JP_knows_it_all</b></div><div>Lundqvist juste got bought out. No one is saying he's "worth" 1M$ a year (at least, I hope!), but it's what he'll accept since he still wants to play and still wants to win (that,s what he tweeted the next day he got bought out). If he want to win, there's no way he makes more than 1M$ this season. No competing team will offer him more. And frankly, at this stage of his career, having already earned 100M$ in NHL salary + all the advertisement money he made (probably at least the same amount as playing in the NHL), he's not looking to get paid. He wants a cup. PERIOD. He's already making 1.5M$ this season and the next, so add 1M$ to each year and I'm pretty sure he'll be OK with that ;)
For Toffoli, his inconsistency will hurt him a bit, trying to get that bigger AAV, imho. Also worth noting, in a "2-3 years of flat cap" world, teams will be reluctant to hand out bigger payday than players are worth.
For FLORIDA, I'm with you on that one, but can't see where Pietrangelo could fit...Stralman could be bought out...we'll see! Where else you think he could realisticaly sign?</div></div>
I think a smart team like Colorado could send Grubauer for a 2nd and sign Lundqvist for 2m. Or maybe Dallas if Khudobin doesn't sign? Seems King-compatible. I assume you agree too that being bought out has much more to do with situation - cap hit and the team trying to pivot this season in particular, while also having two other competent goalies rather than being an indication of playing level.
I'm not saying I would pay that much for Toffoli necessarily, (not that I wouldn't either) but I think it depends on if Vancouver can clear the space and who's competing for the sugnature I guess.
I don't know about Pietro... I'm thinking Calgary? But I'm also assuming they'd have to overpay. I'm super scared Boston is thinking about it when they're talking about trading Carlo. Is Philly close to having space without Niskanen? Other than that I agree its a tough fit unless say Pittsburgh does something crazy (which they very well could)

I get attacked for pointing out his lack of production and then for rightly pointing out the overvaluing, oh well.</div></div>
I think most value Mantha for what he can be and has displayed the past two years (obviously some will over/under value like every fan base). A potential 70pt line driving winger on a team that is offensively inept. Over his past 82 games he’s had 30G and 42A so why would we want to sell him as a 50pt guy when we know he can do more if he doesn’t get into fights? His analytics are great and he is easily the best offensive player on the Wings. He’s also improved every single year and his injuries aren’t anything that will linger.
You aren’t pointing anything out really as I have seen you post anything except your little Neely comment. Trades need to be beneficial to both teams and people need to understand the needs to be considered on both sides of a trade.

People need to stop being pricks and start undestanding that there's more than one "good" answer to GM's problems. Remember that the point of this whole thing is to put fans together to <strong>DEBATE</strong> over what teams should or shouldn't do in the future, not laugh at everyone who don't think like you do...
Sorry about this rant...I had to intervene.</div></div>
Thank you, JP. I agree entirely. I wish there were ways to block or flag certain trolls who spew garbage about players. These guys are the 700 best in the world. Where they fit in that 700 is a matter of debate. But to dismiss players like Pacioretty as "aging" and "finished" or Matthews as "gutless" and "soft" does no good. I appreciate your standing up for many of us who are tired of asshats.

He has a 2 year contract in the KHL and he can't buy it out or anything so he's stuck there until his contract is up. He has told his agent Dan Milstein repeatedly that he plans on coming to the NHL and playing for the Wild as soon as that happens, so the 20/21 season.
This is a huge no from the Wild. We aren't trading Kaprizov and we need right shot top 6 forwards, we're trading away our only right shot in our entire top 9 here making our problem even worse.

Another Karlsson trade!? Whaaaaaaaaat?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jp_harvey</b></div><div>It would have to be verified, but not all contract are insured. That's what I read from different sources (previous agents & hockey insiders tweets and from different broadcast I watched over the years). For example, I heard that the N.Horton contract isn't insured so it's the team who must pay the player salary and it's not the only case like that. I don't really know how to verify that information, though...</div></div>
from Fox Sports
The NHL has a league-wide insurance plan that covers the clubs in case a player suffers a long-term injury or is disabled. After a player misses 30 consecutive games for the same injury, a team can apply for insurance and be reimbursed 80 percent of that player’s salary — a program the Pens could have tapped each of the last two seasons to get back much of Crosby’s salary.
Underwriters, however, may move to exclude payment to the Pens for any future head or neck injuries Crosby might suffer. Such exclusions are allowed under the NHL’s multi-year policy that is overseen by New York-based BWD Group and underwritten by MetLife.
While no player can be totally excluded, the insurer can specify a pre-existing condition that won’t result in a payout — or at least a full payout — if the same body part is re-injured, Marc Blumencranz, executive vice president and CEO of BWD Group, told FOXSports.com. (Blumencranz noted that he’s speaking on injuries in general, not specifically about Crosby.) There is a limit to the number of exclusions underwriters can claim league-wide.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Davisoc</b></div><div>First of all Sekera goes right on LTIR, so not a problem. Lucic will be easier to move long term VS Ryan. And 9.5mill is top dollar. Its just not ridiculous money like north of 10.</div></div>
With Sekera its not about LTIR cap space...OTT.
Getting Lucic "saves" the Sens about 4mill. Not really significant because if that was the case. You're assuming Lucic will be easier to move than Ryan, not the case.
Sekera was not a great defender before and now has an achilles injury to deal with which will affect his value the next two seasons. He MIGHT return to form for the final year of his contract. Besides he has a NMC and is not going to waive to go to EDM.
Paying players north of 10mill is not ridiculous when the salary cap is going up year after year. Top players now are negotiating based total cap percentage. The only way EK doesn't sign 11 or higher would be because he signs in a tax-free state.
