I know the contract cap is 50 but when i went to edit my team earlier today i counted up the number of players on my roster and the ones in the non roster section and it was 56. I looked into the roster, cap, and contracts thread and saw the previous devils gm reported that he had 45/50 contracts and that report was made on February 2. The only moves he made after that before i took over the team was claiming Anton Forsberg on Feb. 4 which i would assume would make 46 out of 50 contracts. Are some of my non roster contracts not counted towards the 50 contract max which would explain the 10 player difference, or is there an issue with how many players i have under contract?</div></div>
I was a bit suspicious when he posted 45/50 because of the amount of players that had been added to that team. If you are over the contract limit, we won't punish you for it, jus try to get back under the limit as soon as you can

Check to see if some of the prospects are 50-contract limit exempt. Can check to see if they’re exempt or not based on their IRL CF team page. Ex: For A guy like Martin Necas, if you check the IRL Carolina team CF page, it shows him as being contract exempt and not counting towards the limit. If you’re still over 50, you’ll be given time to bring that number below the limit and you will not be penalized for it.

2017-18 GM Game - Messages to the BOE Thread
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JT_Miller</b></div><div>I have the new NJD team ready to publish but I had a few questions first...
Some of the players the previous GM(s?) claimed such as Russo and Glass wee not on the template roster I built my team from. Should I assume they were placed on waivers again, cleared them, and were assigned to the Ahl?
Also, is there a post with the rules for this version because it seems like a lot has changed since the first go around?</div></div>
Yeah, NJ made a lot of waiver claims. Russo was part of a trade though. Guys in the minors who have cleared include Tanner Glass, Nic Dowd, and Tyler Wotherspoon. (Maybe others too.)
Here are some rule changes I can think of off the top of my head:
-You can only make four trades per month. Each trade is given a rating for each side (i.e. a fair trade will be rated 3-3).
-If a trade is deemed severely lopsided by the BOG, we can step in and require it to be re-negotiated.
-Waiver order is deemed by power rankings. The BOG makes their own power rankings, taking into account a mix of win-now probability and trade ratings.
-As of this month, you can only claim one player off waivers each month. (Still really salty about that rule change.)
-If a GM makes multiple poor trades, they will be warned. If the poor trades continue, they will be fired.
-The UFA re-sign phase has begun. You can re-sign two UFAs without letting them hit the open market.

Tolvanen for Nash has Forsberg for Erat written all over it.
Tolvanen + Trenin + 1st for Nash is way too high. Maybe for 2008 Rick Nash...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JT_Miller</b></div><div>Take out Gunnarsson, Barbashev, and the condition on one of the 2nds and add one of your "big 4" prospects.</div></div>
agreed-- gunnarsson was probably only added to even cap, but rangers would want kotsin or kyrou along with a first rounder and a conditional second round pick of making it to the conference finals-- and thats just for McDonagh. That would be a deal the rangers would take.
I'm not saying your offer is bad, but as the rangers can resign mcdonagh after next year, they don't NEED to trade him. It's going to take an out of the park offer for the rangers to pull the trigger on a trade for him. Think of what sakic did with duchene, it's going to be a similar type thing.
Now Grabner could go for barbashev. but i would rather another 1st round pick for him

2017-18 GM Game - General Discussion Thread
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JT_Miller</b></div><div>Hey everybody! Not sure how much has changed since v1 regarding "end game" plans. I remember we trekked something like rating other teams to see which one we liked the best. I was just thinking about other ways to create an end game type aspect to the game and one thing I thought of was an NHL 18 simulation. In the video game you can create custom teams and simulate a whole season. I think this could be interesting in that it actually lets the teams "play" each other. I understand not all teams are built to win rn, some are focused on youngers players and rebuilding however I think it would be neat for the teams who are built to compete to see how they would do in a full season. This could maybe even sort out the draft pick order for the future since it will be based off who finished where during the simulated season and not how that team actually did irl. Just trying to come up with some different ideas, looking forward to hearing any opinions!</div></div>
This is one of the ideas that we’re considering to use for draft order. Possibly a “playoffs” too. So with the draft order we’re going to base it 70% off the order of win now, and 30% the order of the trade ratings. To determine the win now order, our ideas were a NHL 18 sim with all the rosters adjusted to the in game order, possibly ownthepuck’s lineup creator if it gets updated as a backup option, and if both of those fail, then we’ll just have to order the teams as we compare their win now capability. So a lower total “draft order value” would mean a lower draft position.
Ex: 1st in win now, 10th in trade ratings = draft order value of 0.7 + 3 = 3.7 so this team would likely be towards the very end of the draft order.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DavidBooth7</b></div><div>BOG....we really need to get a go on this
The next part of FA is to make sure all teams are cap compliant, correcting IRL buyout figures from teams, etc. We shouldn't let this drag any further. I propose we start this today, and give ourselves until July 18th to finish this part up. To make life easier for everyone, well do it this way: 31 teams, 7BOG. All 7 of us will be getting four teams to correct, with 3 of us getting an extra team. To make this simpler, let's just say Zach, Matt, and I each get an extra team. Also for the sake of simplicity, I've divided us up:
boltscharge17: Anaheim, Arizona, Boston, Buffalo
DavidBooth7: Calgary, Carolina, Chicago, Colorado, Columbus
JT_Miller: Dallas (team not made yet, read agenda), Detroit, Edmonton, Florida
Turner33: Los Angeles, Minnesota, Montreal, Nashville
jmac: NY Rangers, NY Isles, NJ Devils, Ottawa
matt59: Philidelphia, Pittsburgh, San Jose, St Louis, Tampa Bay
Zach: Toronto, Vancouver, Vegas, Washington, Winnipeg
Sound good? For more info on this, read Ricos post in the UFA discussion thread about this</div></div>
Yes and this is just to check for off-season cap compliance and that stuff correct?

It is with great displeasure that I announce that I will be forced to leave the GM Game as of tonight due to real life circumstances. It was a load of fun playing this game, but I must focus on my studies and avoid any distractions on the side, which is why I've decided to stop to playing abruptly. Besides, I am already hated by many GM's, so I guess I may be doing the game a favour by leaving. Thanks to all of you guys for being great to work with. I may be potentially interested in staying in some sort of administrative role in this game, and may return as an AGM in the future, but I feel as though it's best to call it quits for now. Again, it was fantastic to participate in this great game, but for now at least, I must say adieu</div></div>
Booth, it was a pleasure to work alongside you on the BoG! I would love for you to stay in a lower administrative role (its not like you see the rest of us trying to start up FA/Waivers), and if you ever want to come back to the game, Nashville would be happy to have you

It can be if you are selective about stats, maybe.
What you need to do Rangers, to get a grasp of the stats argument, is get a base of understanding of many different stats, be able to compare them without using pre-conceived biases, and use all of those stats with an equal weighting during every comparison.
It is irrational to selectively choose stats and say "see! the stats say these players are equal", you need to consider all of the stats, let the data do the talking.
