If the Jackets have to retain that much they would better served to just buy him out.

Would you
I mean if I am the Jackets it is a bit intriguing only bc that 2026 1st could be a very good considering Toronto is likely heading for a rebuild. But I don’t think I would trade Laine to Toronto. I would rather keep him and hope he rebounds.

What would Toronto fans think about this trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>I know it's not a serious proposal, but...I don't hate it? On one hand it's a lazy way to sort through a bunch of RFAs, while doing not a whole lot for either team, and it's likely off on value.
...but on the other hand, CBJ land a 1st and a good prospect for a bunch of depth pieces and Chinakhov? Toronto gets 5 young, cheap, NHL-ready pieces to fill out the roster? I feel weird about it...</div></div>
I just felt like getting in on the action. Like what was said before, Leafs fans tend to try to pump their garbage to other teams expecting diamonds in return. I value Chinakhov more than a 1st. Maybe not what other teams value him at but he still has untapped potential.

New GM making moves
Vegas isn’t trading Karlsson. They can use Lehner’s contract on LTIR. I don’t see why the Jackets move Gubranson and retain for a player that is worse. Marchenko if he were to get an extension of 8 years would definitely and rightly so should accept no less than 6.5 annually. Remember, when giving contract extensions you have to think about we are trying buy FA years. Marchenko projects to be a 60 point guy. He shouldn’t sell himself for less.

Realistic offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LAKANDTOR348</b></div><div>Well, I rebuilt that Dcore with FINALLY 3 RHD, and Rielly has been the BEST with Luke Schenn so ITS a MUST we get someone like him. And I meant to say in the trade details "Looking for a Boone Jenner type of player" So a guy who is good at FO, good defensively, and someone who has scored playoff goals LOL So maybe Scott Laughton? Adam Lowry? But is also 2nd or fringe 2nd line player but he would be playing with Willy and one of McMann, Knies or Maybe Cowen but id like him to be seasoned type of thing</div></div>
It is going to be extremely difficult to do anything. Really Toronto has one play here which is try to use FA but that gets expensive. They don’t have draft capital or prospects that move the needle other than Cowan. Tavares and Marner are almost unmovable contracts at this point. The Leafs would likely have to eat at least half their salary and would get minimal return and again that is if they even decide to waive their NMC.

Jenner is not available. Toronto just needs to go all in next season and basically sell out for a cup. They need depth more than anything. Mainly on defense and an answer in goal.

That is straight robbery. Alex has been great for the Jackets. That 3rd line was great towards the end of the season. Keep Texier, Silly, and Nylander together.

I guess I was misleading. I really didn’t mean Jenner in this instance, I was talking about big time players in general. Columbus holds a higher value on Jenner based on biases. Right or wrong that is just the truth.

Jenner has one of the best contracts in the NHL and is also the Jackets captain. He is not available. The deal offered is just horrible. Leafs don’t have the assets to land a big time player.

Next year without Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>The Leafs don't have a lot of prospects but they have enough young forwards (Knies, Cowan, Robertson and Minten) and goalies (Woll and Hidelby) to maintain their window potentially considering that Matthews, Marner and Nylander will be 27-28 next year. Their problem though is they got nothing on defense pretty much, aging dcore on the NHL level and not much in terms of prospects, so they are going to need to get lucky in this draft or sign some FAs but they don't got too much cap to even do that.
Next year will be even tougher for them to put together a team, but once Tavares contract is up, they will have an opportunity to do something, it might just be too late though since Matthews may want out/they would only have two more years with him guaranteed.</div></div>
The most important thing here is that defense cost money on the open market and takes time to develop via prospects. I do think Toronto was the better team compared to Boston but they were never going to beat either Florida or NYR/Car.

Next year without Marner
Marner is not going anywhere. He has a NMC and has a contract is buyout proof. Unless he wants out, Toronto is screwed. Next season they will have to run it back and have no way to recoup value. Sure they will have cap space in the summer of 25 but they don’t have the young depth needed to maintain their contention window.

Mitchy Waives To Columbus And Pick Is Celebrini Protected
So let me get this straight…The Jackets, who need a 1C, is going to move the pick we could use to get him for another high priced winger? No. Plus, Celebrini would be team controlled for 7 years at pretty cheap price. On top of all this, you want Sillinger too? He was born in Columbus and is again a C which is what the Jackets need to develop depth at. This was not a well thought trade.

Yea…no. Boqvist has more value than that. The only thing that holds him back is his injuries but he is very good offensively and on the PP. I would say the Jackets keep him but we are deep at RD at the moment with NHL contracts with Jiricek needing ice time.
