Not the kind of deal the Avs are looking for I imagine. They're looking FOR defenseman, not to get rid of one of their 3 capable ones in return for a mystery box of futures.

Did you include Juolevi or Boeser in the deal? Then the Avs say no easily.

Value is low on Iginla, Comeau and Duchene. Far too high on Mitchell and Gelinas. And why are you trading Wiercioch and making Francois Beauchemin the #1 LHD?

OFF SEASON SIGNINGS?
Low on Oshie money, that's a guy looking to cash in for the first time in his career. And that Carolina offer isn't getting you Slavin. Varlamov's value at an all time low and Slavin would certainly take Duchene, if the Canes are willing to move him at all.

This is laughable. Scraps and a single, late first round pick for one of the Avs' top forwards AND you expect the Avs to retain salary? Come on

Fire Sale
Your valuation on both Landeskog and Duchene is low, especially given Noah Juulsen's personal struggles since his draft year. Some but not all of the other targets make some sense, but things like Lupul, and a retread in McClement do not.

No way is Haydyn Fleury the centerpiece of a Duchene trade, but yes Hanifin makes sense

A Flyers Duchene trade would require Provorov as the main piece. Sort of the end of the discussion on Colorado's end. Nothing else makes much sense for them.

That's not exactly what he said, he said that the Avs may be looking for a goalie as well. There likely isn't a young goalie worth one of those top forwards as the main trade piece.

The whole point of this trade would be trying to increase the number of quality young defenders on the roster so no, Zadorov wouldn't be a logical part of this

Avs fan here, you can probably get Varlamov for less and it might be a smart buy low value buy as this year's been a disaster for the whole team.

Looking at past deadlines and similar players, Iginla likely has more value than that. The Duchene trade is close IMO. The Landeskog trade I don't really understand for COL and definitely makes no sense for TB

Considering the similarities with where the Avs are now and the Jackets were 2 years ago it's remarkable that this is so hard for you to get a handle on.</i></div></div>
Did the Jackets 2 years ago not have an identity? I think they had more of an identity then the Avs do now. The were a much closer team to the playoffs then the Avs are. Unless you mean the Jackets of old back in 11-12? That team was Rick Nash and nothing else pretty much.
I feel the Jackets are closer to where Colorado was in 13-14. The ice breaker will be if they show they weren't a flash in the pan like the Avs were every year after.
I get it, If I had Duchene, I wouldn't want to lose him for less than full value and I would be dissapointed in some of the offers shown but that doesn't mean they have been wrong. Truthfully, Colorado shouldn't trade Landy or Duchene right now. They will not get the right value back so might as well just keep them and hope for big seasons next year and then try to trade them when their value better reflects their talent and capabilities.</i></div></div>
A lot of this "identity" "flash in the pan" blah blah blah is just that, a bunch of blah blah blah. So let's talk specifics. The similarities are that just a few years ago, the Jackets were an inept defensive team with some good young forward talent locked up long term, some bad older deals, and a serious imbalance of F to D talent, but with some solid prospects still in the pipeline. Avs' current prospect pipeline is a bit thinner than what the Jackets' was at that point, but their top 3 pick this summer should alleviate that to a degree. So where does that leave us? Well what did the Jackets do? They traded their top C (where they had a small surplus) for a top D (where they were deficient). That's exactly what the Avs are looking to do, IF they trade Duchene or Landeskog.
The reason the asking price has been reported the way it has, is that there aren't a lot of situations like the Johansen for Jones out there (though Duchene for Hanifin is pretty similar IMO), what that leaves the Avs with are more high risk situations where they take someone on like Brandon Carlo, or Thomas Chabot, or whatever... someone with potential but also lots of development risk. In a deal like that, just like when the Avs traded O'Reilly, they get more pieces on the periphery to offset that risk. Think that's unrealistic? Well O'Reilly as an RFA with 1 year left forcing his way out of Colorado and putting the Avs in a disadvantageous bargaining position brought back a Dman who was a top 15 pick 2 years earlier (that blue chip D prospect), an NHL middle six player roster player, a high pick (31 OA) and a quality prospect (Compher). So yeah... getting the same for Duchene, who has outscored O'Reilly at every juncture of their career isn't unreasonable.

Respect to you for giving up more value than most CBJ fans do, but this will be a no from Colorado. The Avs don't solve any of their issues on defense (sorry Murray). Avs look elsewhere.
