Longshot but somewhat realistic Avs Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tp47</b></div><div>I don't think they're too far off. 4x$6M is a little low for JVR on the UFA market, and 2x$4.5M for De Haan is overpaying a little and probably not enough term.
I would want to see the Avs get a different backup goalie - let Francouz get a ton of time in the AHL to start. I also don't know about picking up Stastny, unless you're moving one of Soderberg/Compher/Kerfoot/Kamenev.</div></div>
Look at what Evander Kane just got as a UFA. The big thing here is term. UFAs at the top of a UFA class (which both JvR and De Haan are) don't settle for short or mid term deals. They take 5-7 year deals.

Playoffs?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlothArmstrong</b></div><div>Avs are having a good season and it's definitely a good thing that they're in the playoff hunt. However, They should still be building for next season and the season after that, and giving up two young players probably isn't in their best interests. Even though he's got a good contract and is definitely a solid player, Galchenyuk isn't enough to justify getting rid of these guys, at least not yet; a year from now the avs should have a clearer picture of what they have in these guys (especially Kamenev) and whether or not they're more valuable in the lineup or as trade bait</div></div>
I agree with the sentiment, but it's not like this is a rental the Avs are snagging. Galchenyuk is a 23 year old RFA protected forward who already has a 30 goal season under his belt. If this deal were on the table COL should take it immediately, hang up the phone, and run as far away as they can so that Bergevin couldn't undo it somehow.

What a joke. Rebuilding Colorado trades their premier trade chip and the 4th overall pick for a 30 year old defenseman are you serious? What a sham.
Edit: Oh. AND their top defensive prospect. This is honestly one of the worst thought out proposals I've ever seen on this site.

Only comments to make a negative remark. That's So Coga.

Probably because it's a waste of time talking about moving one of the three players the Avs aren't interested in or going to move.

Absolutely insulting offer to Colorado. Flat out ridiculous. It doesn't help them rebuild, it makes them worse now, and it doesn't do a single thing to address their long term needs at defense. Did you even try?

Pretty unevenly weighted towards CBJ if you ask me. Meanwhile, the Avs draw the short straw and take on all of the risk in this trade.

You know it's a bold trade when you ask for a 1st line center under the age of 26 and don't give up any of: 1) a 1st rounder, 2) any of top 3 defensive prospects and 3) anything of even moderately respectable value to make the trade.
There is absolutely 0 interest in this deal from the Avs' side.

So you've traded the Avs 3 most valuable chips, inexplicably retained salary on along term deal despite Barrie's highly reasonable contract, taken back multiple terrible contracts, and all you got in return are dice rolls? Not a single bona fide young NHL talent?
Yikes.

Another Duchene deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>
First on Zadorov, he was thrusted into that role because they had no one else on the team to play those minutes. If the Avs had another option I am sure they would have used it.
Now, as far as the trade, it is very possible. Bednar is the coach. Remember he came from the Jackets farm system. One thing has been proven time and time again to work. If you want to win you build from the blue line out. Murray is better than most people think. Murray is a victim of bad timing. He was all set to play with Jones this year on the first line but then Werenski happened. Torts wanted to put him on the second pairing but Jack Johnson cannot play with anyone other than Savard. It also happened that pair became our best shutdown pairing and one of the best in the league. Murray had to now play the third pair. Which meant his ice time dropped and he played with raw and less experienced players most of the time.
Murray is capable of big minutes. Everyone underestimates how good he is. Strong skater, makes very good first passes out of the zone, and can play big minutes.
The next thing they need is depth. As you stated they do have some players developing but all of them are inexperienced at the NHL level.</div></div>
It's funny to me how HARD CBJ fans try and push this narrative about how good Murray is while constantly trying to get rid of him in every trade. The truth is, he's just not special. He's an average to below average guy and every metric we have for measuring him agrees with that assessment. Your read on Zadorov is wrong, the team has been grooming Zadorov for that role since acquiring him and acquired him with the hopes of playing him in a top 2 or top 4 role long term.

Another Duchene deal
I appreciate you trying to think this through from the Avs' perspective but you're off on a few counts. 1st, before he was injured Zadorov had made his way to the top of the depth chart and was succeeding with top pairing matchups and minutes. Unless the Avs land a big fish in a Duchene trade, that's where Avs fans expect to see him again (paired with Johnson) in the fall. Beyond that the Avs will have between 1-3 of Lindholm, Mironov or Bigras on the roster as well.
Now onto your trade, the reason people are adding 1st round picks to the deal is because A) yes the Avs absolutely want and need them as they rebuild and B) it takes giving up value to get value. You haven't really given the Avalanche anything of value in this trade, but instead tossed a handful of "meh" prospects at them in a quantity over quality trade. Considering some of the other teams interested in Duchene and the young D men they can contribute to a trade, a deal like this won't be a competitive offer for CBJ.

Avs Fix
It's easy to "fix" the team when you make really lopsided trades. A 1st rounder with unknown value plus two barely NHL defensemen both on expiring contracts is just not even close to landing Drouin.

Poor fit for the Avs. Yes Hjalmarsson fills a need for the Avalanche, but at 30 years old before the start of next season he's far too old to make sense. The Avalanche are rebuilding, they won't be using the Duchene trade to get older.

Colorado Trade
If you meant to put Duchene here, then there are grounds for a meaningful conversation about a trade. If you did in fact mean MacKinnon, however, the price starts with Werenski or Jones. It's just that simple. You don't make the Johansen Jones trade and then fein ignorance while you turn around and try to acquire MacKinnon for pennies on the dollar.

If you don't address the Avs' clear and stated need for a high quality young defender for Duchene then the answer is a clear and easy no. It's just that simple.
