Colorado Trade

Description
This only works if Vegas takes Kruger and I'm pretty sure the Hawks can trade picks with Vegas for expansion draft "favors". Hjalmarsson is pretty much the only player with a significant salary that can be traded. Colorado really needs defense. I think this trade helps both teams. It pretty much plugs any hole in the Hawks forwards. The Hawks would probably have to throw in a ton of draft picks or a prospect to get Colorado to keep half of Duchene's cap hit. This is based on the rumors that Duchene has been on the trade block and that the Hawks need more youth and speed on the back end. These 6 defenseman are at least on par with PIT who looks to be marching on to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Poor fit for the Avs. Yes Hjalmarsson fills a need for the Avalanche, but at 30 years old before the start of next season he's far too old to make sense. The Avalanche are rebuilding, they won't be using the Duchene trade to get older.

Aves D is so bad right now. Maybe if Hawks added a decent young D prospect that was NHL ready along with Hjammer would it be a better fit for the Aves? The young kids need a veteran to learn from and who better than Hjalmarsson.

Its a bad deal for the Avs. Like lobster said, Hjalmarsson is a good DMan but hes not the right for the Avs....especially trading duchene in the division and retaining half his salary. Sorry but there is no interest in Hjalmarsson at this point
