Ehlers seems to be the whipping boy at the moment, new coach/same gm, so Carlson might be a little bigger ticket item than there after, but a big right handed shot dman has evaded them for a few seasons now.

Interesting idea. Do you think the the Caps would be willing to retain any salary? That would make the trade more appealing. To take out a second and get him at 6 mill

You need a 1st in that Necas package. This is pretty easily declined, there's just not enough here.

For sure but given that Marner has the full-NMC I would be shocked if he doesn't have an extension in place with any team he gets traded to

He won't be but he also will be extremely close given that he was leading into a extremely invasive spinal surgery. I mean look at Meier or Tkachuk or even Guentzal. The deal you presented is only competitive with the Guentzal deal which was essentially pure rental at the deadline.

Tuch-Tage-JJP was cooking end of last season. Top line forwards on L2 is a problem I'm okay having. When Marchand and Pasta don't play together one is technically on L2.
There's not much better than Ostlund value wise in anyone's pipeline so not sure what you're looking for outside of an additional piece.

Leafs trade: cmonnnn, besides schmaltz, those other 5 pieces mean nothing. There has to be at least a first & top prospect or leafs will just hold imo. Quality > Quantity</div></div>
This is the first Kuemper trade I've seen that makes some sense but even still I only pull the trigger on this if I have something concrete I'm doing with that ~5m

Capitals Shake up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logicalicesports</b></div><div>Without knowing what the off-ice issues are exactly, makes this hard to say whether or not he is worth moving back a round for him. If it is a mental health thing that he recovers from than I could see someone moving back to grab him for a relatively cheap price. He was a high end piece for Vancouver and couldn't find his stride in D.C. maybe its the system or maybe its what he needed to go into the NHLPA program for. Hard to tell, but i feel like if he was cleared he would make an ideal Blackhawk if he came back to form</div></div>
The uncertainty is part of what would make him a cap dump, though. But, even if positive value were in the cards, it wouldn't be from the 2nd to the 3rd. It would be something more like trading back from the 4th round to the 5th round.

Mitch Marner is worth more than you think
He's really not. Lackluster playoffs, a very non-physical style of hockey, and his astronomical cap hit make his value much lower than you think. No one is denying he's a good player. But the biggest knock on his value is he's not a playoff performer, which until he proves otherwise will reduce how much he's worth in a trade.
As a side note, Nashville wouldn't trade Askarov for that pick unless it was number 1. The consensus seems to be Askarov is about to make the leap to the NHL and Saros will be the odd man out and may be traded at the draft

LA needs a significant amount of compensation to even consider a Kuemper for Dubois swap without retention. With that retention, the cost will be astronomical.
Both sides decline the Anaheim trade pretty easily. Anaheim wants a big piece central in the return if they're moving Zegras, and honestly I'd rather them not trade away McMichael right now.
Ottawa probably accepts but I think the caps are better off passing on that deal.

dmen on a discount
So Dallas 2 options:
Option 1 - They keep their franchise-caliber defenseman for nearly $4M per year less than what you have Marner making here
Option 2 - They trade their franchise-caliber defenseman for Marner, who is already overpaid, and then give him EVEN MORE money, absolutely killing their cap and leaving their already shorthanded blue line even more crippled
Why on earth would Dallas choose Option 2?

Dach is untouchable, even at season end Kent Hughes said Dach could become better than Suzuki if that happens he would become MTL #1 center

Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. There are some wicked defensive prospects, some of whom definitely grade out higher than Yakemchuk, but the package he brings to the table is undeniable. Can't see him falling further than like...12? At the worst. RHD are treated like unicorns in the NHL, teams just aren't passing up on an RHD with his big frame, who knows how to use that size, and with the obvious talent he has over details. The things that make him special are the things that just can't be taught, any development staff worth their salt can teach him to pick his spots on breakouts or defensive positioning or whatever warts he might have. I'd be very happy with him at 8 for Ottawa, though admittedly part of that is just because I want to hear PxP guys struggling with calling Tkachuk, Ostapchuk and Yakemchuk on the same team

Always depends on team needs. If you made a list of offensive vs defensive, Left vs Right…if there is a run early on offensive RHD and that’s a need, maybe someone grabs him near top-10. But there are alternatives.
Offensive LHD
1. Buium
2. Kiviharju
3. Hutson
4. Sahlin Wallenius
Defensive LHD
1. Dickinson
2. Silayev
3. Shuravin
4. Freij
Offensive RHD
1. Levshunov
2. Parekh
3. Yakemchuk
4. Mews
Defensive RHD
1. Jiricek
2. Emery
3. Elick
4. Roberts

Value wise, Habs trade is probably fine but I don't get why everyone is trying to take the Habs bad contracts, Montreal has all the cap space in the world right now, we don't need to dump Gallagher or Anderson this year, next year maybe, but it's not a move that makes sense this offseason
