Yeah look I’m super not opposed to Marner personally (though there are some Ducks fans who are just because of the $12M he wants).
To me the problem is what value is be willing/able to give as ANA
1. I wouldn’t give up a single piece of the core for him (Leo, McT, Z, Gauthier, Terry, Zell, Minty, Zell, ‘24 ANA 1st).
2. Half our vets have outright said no to TOR (Gibby, Gudas, Fowler)
3. He’s a pending UFA, so while there’s hope he’d re-sign in ANA if he’s waive for us, there’s nothing concrete, which hurts the value I’d give up mid-rebuild
Would I do Vatrano, Lacombe, and the EDM 1st? Totally. Would TOR though?

1,000% but you really think his ask is $15M? If he’s comparing against Matthews, that’s $13.25x4, and he’d know he’s a step down from that. So that’s like 12.5x4, or close to Nylander on a long term which isn’t team shattering.
Agreed it’s still a tough one to take on right before dishing out all our post-ELC deals though

His agent literally put out a statement a year ago when rumors were circulating (thus causing Toronto media to go ape ****) that Dubas was in on Gibson hard before Dubas was shown the door for his power play.

Noted on $12. For Gibby and a late 1st I’d go for it as ANA. But in reality this is super farfetched because the odds of Marner waiving for ANA are low, and the odds of Gibby doing so for TOR are even worse, let alone trade values etc

How is it brutal? Leafs get some cap relief to offer them freedom to invest in other areas, get a bonafide number 1, and some draft capital..they move from a dimunative fwd that doesnt move the needle for them from a championship perspective in the process..Marner is a great regular season player but he isnt gonna help us in winning a cup imo
Lillypad isnt built for the playoffs in the east either and Jarnkrok leaving creates space for a cheaper player to fill his roster spot.
what is your logic</div></div>
Sure the leafs gain cap space, but in my opinion they’re not getting good value in return for those 3 players. You’re trading an elite wing, a good right shot d, and a good bottom six player for a late first, a late second, and a goalie who hasn’t been good in 5 years. That’d be a bad return for Marner alone.

And I would definitely agree. I look fwd to seeing how he helps Leafs in the playoffs which is the reason we got him and Max</div></div>
Red Wings fans always said Bert's game was suited for the playoffs.
He certainly proved it last playoffs.
I don't see any reason why he won't repeat it in the upcoming playoffs.
He's really playing well right now.

His (Domi) playoffs will determine alot (as many other on this team) about how he fits and what hes worth this upcoming FA market.
What do you think is fair for a player with his numbers (like he stated somewhere in all this discussions) he leads the league in 5 on 5 primary assists..and he has just started playing with 34 and sees maybe 30secs of PP duty if the first unit even gets off lol
I dont think McMann takes 2nd line duties FT from him if he stays, but one never knows (And I do hope McMann becomes a consistent top 6 fwd-20goals?) I think its probably too early to really get a handle
playoffs here we come (Bos or Fla? not gonna be easy)</div></div>
Atlantic is a beast but gotta beat ‘em if we want to move forward.
Long term, I don’t see a fit for Domi in top 6 (Matthews 1C + Marner, Willy at RW + Knies, Cowan at LW). He can’t play 2C so it’s 3rd line winger and I wouldn’t pay much more than he’s making now, but with term. He has impressed with his playmaking but he’s rally bad defensively- why he’s bounced around on so many teams. 4 x $3-3.5 take it or leave it

Kypreos was saying that a 4x4 deal is what it would take
he leads the league in 5 on 5 primary assists
(as per the SDPN panel)
and Bert at 5 isnt happening (I wish!) hes gonna hit 20 goals and he has intangibles too (not 1 dimensional)..especially if he duplivcates last years playoffs numbers..Id say 4 years 6.5M
he took 5 this year because he overplayed the market and we were the last man standing..and hes on a tear atm
one could hope though..I aint gonna cry if we get both at those numbers</div></div>
Kypreos is a hack, badly over estimated McMann’s extension. I put zero stock in his opinion. I don’t see a spot for Domi long term - he’s not a 2C and assuming JT gets demoted to 3C + our top 6 wingers are set - Marner, Willy, Knies & Cowan eventually. If Domi stays - it has to be at a number Leafs can tolerate for 3rd line winger

Bert wanted term in Detroit.
Similar to what Larkin got.
But he was never going to get that because C is a much more valuable position than wing.
IIRC Yzerman offered Bert a 4 year deal worth 6 mil AAV and he turned it down.
Yzerman broke off negotiations and traded him to Boston when the Red Wings season cratered.
Yzerman used that extra 1st to acquire Cat.
Yzerman read the league correctly as no other team offered Bert that term.
Boston wanted to re-sign Bert but those overages for Bergeron and Krejci killed them.
So then he took the 1 year deal Tree offered him.
I don't know where he'll end up this summer?
Personally, I'd take less to stay in Toronto playing with Matthews and inflate my numbers.
But that's just me. LOL

doesnt make sense to move him..and to bring in Tanev like hes suggesting would be a mistake
we would have to overpay to balance what Dallas will offer and hes breaking down will all the shots he blocks.</div></div>
Plus Leafs have invested a lot of time and patience developing Liljegren.
It doesn't make sense for the Leafs to cut bait now unless they get an offer they can't refuse.

No one is offering Domi or Bertuzzi, especially that term, so why should the Leafs. Leafs have the cap to keep one, as Edmundson, Luby and LIljegeren should get more than 5.5m combined. Luby shouldn't be getting four years.

Don't know where the concept of Xhekaj was having a hard time staying in the Habs lineup comes from, he has played 41 games for us this year, sent to Laval for a bit before the deadline to allow for him to play in the AHL playoffs and help work on a few things and had missed a few games with an injury. All that aside Habs love Wifi and are overflowing with small wingers, that isn't a trade we are making IMO
