Still Need A Top Winger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pocke</b></div><div>I don't think Smith is what CBJ would be looking for. We have Bean already at the bottom of our LD. We have Christiansen who is serviceable in a 3rd pairing role and we have Mateychuk coming up in a couple of years.
I think we'd much rather give a look at Dawson Mercer.
That being said, CBJ will move Voracek/Nyquist/Bean/Boqvist before trading Laine for assets (unless he wants a ridiculous contract, but Jarmo doesn't seem bothered yet).</div></div>
Mercer would be a none starter for me. Very promising rookie year. Seems to be a solid top 6 contributor sooner than later. Since other comments are saying “overpay”, why not just take Smith out completely? Sharangovich and a 1st for Laine?

Oops. Meant to put the Habs 2nd. I corrected it. I still think it’s a fair trade.

I’m indifferent about trading him. I saw an article on it and thought it would be fun to speculate.

NJDS
I’d switch McLeod and Sharangovich. Not too bad otherwise. Still think we are going to sign a FA center to fill the 3rd line center role.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Opie</b></div><div>I think Coleman will do even better than that. He will be in ultra high demand. For a high tax state like NJ, they would have to top it off even more to compete with Dallas (for example)</div></div>
Tax state…Biz is that you? Lol jk. I think Coleman will go for a lot of $. So much so it’ll price NJ out of the talks.

Devils Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>I would do the Dunn deal, provided we do something with Butcher. Makes little sense to have Smith, Dunn, Butcher all on roster.
What makes Dunn more attractive in my view, is his high success rate of breaking the puck out of his own zone. Devils need that.</div></div>
Yeah so if Butcher is gone to Seattle, a move for Dunn would be ideal.

Devils Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>I have nothing against Dunn, but if Butcher had hard time getting into lineup as a second offensive LHD, couldn't same occur with Dunn?
That is my only worry...Fitzy trades for a guy, and Ruff scratches him.
But I do like Dunn's high breakout success %.
If Toews cost two 2nds...I think that is comp to use, maybe a little less.</div></div>
In theory, it could happen to anyone. Look at Gusev. We thought he would be great this season and that obviously was not the case….
Dunn is a better skater than Butcher and is a better possession player. Also, at 24 he has already won a cup and has come from a winning culture. He would fit right into the Devils long term plans.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Devil1122</b></div><div>I agree. Maybe they could take on bad contracts this offseason (Ladd, Eriksson, Neal, etc)</div></div>
I wouldn’t want a bad contract unless we get a great pick or player/prospect along with it. I would prefer we try to lure guys from FA (Hoffman) but I know that would be very difficult to pull off.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>zyyyp</b></div><div>Palmieri hasn't earned a raise with his play this season, not even close.
I would play Holtz with Hughes, he's already probably the 3rd best winger on the team without having played a game. No need to push him down the lineup just because he's young.
Agree with you that Power, Clarke, or Hughes would be great. I think you're missing a name in there too with Simon Edvinsson :D
I would probably like to see a trade or a free agent signing in here as well.</div></div>
I would love for Holtz to play top 6 right off the bat. I’m just worried we rush him and it stunts him.
I haven’t looked much at Edvinsson. It’s a weird draft since everyone is playing god knows where

Yeah the lines are going to be weird, hard to predict. I do think Coleman back will help a lot.

My thoughts
I think someone will fall, but won’t be Raymond. My money is on Lundell since scouting reports are saying he is expected to have a lower ceiling in the NHL versus other prospects. I also think the Devils pick Mercer with their 2nd pick, if he’s still there. If we (Devils) get Rossi I’ll be happy as ever. Also think they’re going to trade on me of their picks (not #7).

TBH lets see what YAK, Santini, Carrick, and Butcher can do with the top 4...we can't be any worse then where we are now (and if so, higher lottery win %)

Switch Bratt and Coleman. Jury is still out if Murphy resigns (I hope he does though, could be a good find).
If Johnny Q signs, it's a one year deal IMO. Zacha gets 2, not 3. Same with Butcher. It will be a 2-3 bridge deal, not 5 years.

Not bad idea. I read the article too, however I do not think it’ll happen. Shero has proven to make some good blockbusters, so not discounting it.

I'd Agree with you. I was trying to see how Lovejoy could get traded (what team, for what, etc). Regardless, I think we can move him for a pick or a prospect potentially. How does the rest of my armchair look?
