an NYR fan understands it because, unlike you, they actually watched them play, and both were horrible. if you think that either one caused Igor Shesterkin to put up the best season by a goalie in the last 80 years then i have a bridge to sell you
but sure, keep thinking the Rangers are better off with Goodrow/Reaves than they are with the guy who put up 30 goals and 76 points and elite defense

Next year your bubble team is -4m. Crazy long terms on rfas. Kulak gets way more. Goodrow > Roy. Pulj is not a fit. You underestimate Lindgren</div></div>
Goodrow is not better than Roy that's a laughable joke lol. Also if there's little interest in a Buch trade, then you don't trade him for that return. the Rangers refusing to give Buch $5.8 but willing to give Reaves/Goodrow/Blais/Nemeth/Tinordi a combined $10.1 is why Drury sucks so much

Ryan Lindgren and Ben Chiarot aren't weighted the same either though. there wasn't a D man in the league with worse metrics than Ben Chiarot. idk how to make it a protected first on here but i would add that protection if i could, that's fair

we're talking about a young and cost-controlled Ryan Lindgren who plays 20 min a night with positive defensive metrics, that also has a league-wide reputation for being a first pair defenseman. again, in real life, teams actually paid a first and more for 20 games of Ben Chiarot, who is literally the worst defenseman in the league. Lindgren could 100% net a first round pick, hell Brady Skjei did too

Does Arizona really have a timeline? If anything he would, it's rumored they're interested in signing Kadri to show they're committed to putting a winning team in that college rink.
Lindgren right behind Chabot and ahead of Sanderson. The league does not see Lindgren as a 3rd pairing D

i think you're underestimating Lindgren's market value, by a lot. this is a league where teams were fighting tooth and nail to trade a first and more for Ben Chiarot at the trade deadline...
and of course Goodrow's "intangibles" (we know NYR wasn't the only team willing to offer him that much). Vegas is in cap hell and don't have much negotiating room

who's coming in instead? Gustavsson was terrible in the AHL this season and last season. <a href="https://i.ibb.co/tbQ4BCg/Screen-Shot-2020-08-12-at-1-28-23-PM.png" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Here's a statistical comparison of Georgiev with other current starting goaltenders in the NHL.</a> He's extremely valuable and totally worth it. Georgiev isn't just a backup goaltender, he's a solid starter in the NHL, especially considering the atrocious defense the Rangers have put in front of him. He would without question slot in as the Senators' #1 goalie. 33OA is a completely fair asking price at market value for a goalie of Georgiev's caliber, along with the fact that Ottawa's prospect pool is stacked with tons of other picks in this draft

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>Yeah 3.23 GA/60 is pretty brutal and can be in part attributed to coaching. But when you have a LHD group of Lindgren, Hajek, Staal, Smith, and Rykov, along with some offensive Dmen who aren't so good defensively (DeAngelo, Fox) you're gonna struggle. Especially with a lack of good two-way C's on the roster.</div></div>
It was Skjei/Lindgren/Staal until the deadline, then Smith/Lindgren/Staal. Hajek didn't play much, and Rykov didn't play at all. Fox was NYR's best defensive defenseman and DeAngelo was underrated. Chytil is also underrated defensively but wasn't trusted by DQ. DQ used guys like Ryan Strome and Brett Howden as the "reliable defensive forwards", and not because it's all we had, but because he truly believes they're good two-way players. Watching those 2, Staal and Lindgren killing penalties was dumb. It was fair to expect them to be bad, since it's a rebuilding year, but 3.23 xGA/60 is <a href="https://twitter.com/ChartingHockey/status/1206570989859024897" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">i believe the highest in the history of modern stats</a>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>What is it that the Rangers were hoping to get out of him?
Rangers also had Lindy Ruff as assistant coach so I don't really buy the bad coaching thing completely, though it is a valid point to an extent.</div></div>
Rangers thought they were getting a reliable eventual two-way 2C with a high floor and an albeit low ceiling. Lindy Ruff isn't a good coach especially when it comes to defense. His time in Dallas vs Dallas now is a pretty good example. He also handled the PK with NYR more than anything really. But my goodness, I welcome you to look into just how bad the Rangers as a team were defensively. 3.23 xGA/60 -- dead last in the NHL, no other team was above 3, not even the Red Wings. It's all coaching, but the team is chalking it up to the kids being young/getting their feet wet. Rebuild or not, the Rangers have too many good players to be just that bad as a team when it comes to possession, expected goals, and defense. Look at all the guys that have left the Rangers: Ryan Graves, Shattenkirk, Pionk, Skjei -- all have been better since leaving. Not a coincidence

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>I'm on the fence on this, and I can see valid points from both sides.
Kreider is a good player and would fit nicely on this team. However his contract could easily age poorly and we could be stuck with him on a full NMC in 2023 when Mackinnon, Byram, Kaut, and possibly Newhook need new contracts.
I also feel like Jost + 1st is a high price to pay in this flat-cap market when there will undoubtedly be some great deals to be had via trade or free agency. Kreider also has a full NMC and can veto trades to non-contenders so I think we'd have a pretty strong bargaining position if NYR wanted to move him. Sakic had the opportunity to acquire him at the deadline for Jost + 1st but passed on it, and I think his value has decreased since then due to the contract/NMC and flat cap.
As for Howden, I couldn't have any less interest in him. He has literally THE worst CF% and FF% in the entire league among forwards with 60+ games. He does nothing for us. I'd rather you just remove him entirely and drop the 3rd round pick. If you want to include a prospect then you can include Barron or Robertson instead.</div></div>
I firmly agree Howden is awful, but I also chalk up his play to David Quinn being IMO the worst coach in the NHL. He's shown absolutely no ability to develop young talent and it's why a guy like Kakko was also statistically a cellar dweller with Howden. Every player on the Rangers was below average in xGA/60, including Panarin. It's not a player thing -- it's a product of the non-system system that Quinn rolls out, and whenever asked about why the team isn't good, he just says things like "they didn't have good intentions" and "they didn't play with enough purpose". I'm confident that a team like Colorado would develop Howden into what the Rangers were hoping they would get out of him.

DeAngelo is good. He put up the most points by an NYR dman since Leetch, and he statistically was a <a href="https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/assessing-nhl-defencemen-best-transition-game/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">top 5 transition defenseman in the NHL this season</a>

he's statistically been either the best in the league at tipped-puck goals or 2nd best to Pavelski. from what i remember, he's #1 in the league. his speed can also keep up with a guy like MacKinnon should they decide to move him to 1LW
