Thread: Flames 18-19
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Ultimate_Pielord</b></div><div>Why can't Flames lineups ever leave the 3M line alone? In terms of defense and play driving they were one of the NHL's best lines ast year, often starting a shift in the dzone and ending with an ozone start without giving up any decent chance. Given decent PDO, they probably would've been conclusively anointed the NHL's best second line (except possibly for Beauvillier-Barzal-Eberle in NYI).
Beyond that, 6 years to a nearly 30 winger who needs sheltering is pretty dicey. Especially when he might not even take that deal.</div></div>

Well I'm mainly going off the fact that Peters has said he's going to test Tkachuk out on the top line RW during the preseason and I don't mind him playing up the lineup and putting Backlund and Folik into more of a 3rd line defensive role where they excel, and can also contribute offensively. As well as getting Bennett some skilled linemates to play with and hopefully helping him break out.
JVR fills a need for more scoring in the top 6/powerplay and IMO is a better option than some other players like Neal, Perron, Vanek, Nash (given age and what they will get for contracts). The Flames need goals and to address this by replacing Ferland with Lindholm and Derek Ryan (Who the Flames are rumoured to go in on) just doesn't cut it for me. So a top 6 option at 29 who consistently has put up 54+ points (prorated over 82 games) for the last 6 seasons seems like a good option to me. Not sure why you're so butthurt about him/the contract, Flames need to go after someone that can help push the play and push other players like Backlund and Frolik down the lineup. Instead of signing bottom 6 players who are 30+ years old and hoping that they produce/find that extra gear magically.

"might not even take that deal" - well I guess that's why it's an armchair GM site where we try things out. No need to walk around with a holier than thou attitude. Plus if your a Flames fan do you really want to see our lines glued together like last season where

Gaudreau-Monahan-RW
Tkachuk-Backlund-Folik
Bennett-Jankowski-RW

Are basically attached at the hip all season? I personally don't since it didn't seem to work for us despite the 3M lines great play, I mean we did finish out of the playoffs. But hey, I guess some people like calling it an early season and watching other teams play for the cup in April. I'm looking forward to lines actually getting shuffled when the Flames aren't producing/creating chances in a game. I'd personally prefer spreading out the offense and running 3 scoring lines instead of stacking them all onto two lines. Which is why my lineup is spread out the way it is. Thanks for your opinion though, it was much unappreciated.
