Winning your minutes is literally the "be all and end all". And Matt Benning has done is consistently ever since he joined the league - on a team that doesn't. Over the past 4 years, at 5v5:
Benning: 158 GF - 129 GA (55.05 GF%)
Oilers: 616 GF - 651 GA (48.62 GF%)
Here's the incredible thing, his numbers haven't been massively juiced by McDavid. Over the past 3 years:
TOI with McDavid: 695:37
TOI w/o MCDavid: 1739:49
He's a quality player. And I have never once suggested trading him to Calgary.</div></div>
Why would McDavid have an affect on him when he gets no PP time and is on the last pairing for the majority of the game. Fortunately your point of view works for both of us because we have our own players we'll need to start developing on the last pairing and the #7 spot moving forward and hopefully at a smaller cap hit as well.
I will give you that he is a serviceable 3rd pairing player, but I wouldn't want him eating top 4 minutes for my team. This is probably more so coming from the fact that Calgary doesn't need a bottom pairing dman. Versus other needs we should be looking at.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>flyersarephilly</b></div><div>Gaudreau has 2 years left while Konecny has 5 years. Gaudreau is going to make more money on his next contract than Voracek is currently making. IMO there is less of a difference in a nhl player from 31-27 than 27-23. Voracek makes a lot of money you're absolutely but he's still producing at a top 6 rate and was the Flyers best forward in the playoffs like I said besides Gaudreau's 99 point season they've produced very similarly Gaudreau's point totals over the last 5 years are 78,61,84,99,58 Voracek's are 55,61,85,66,56. I understand not wanting to take on the Voracek contract but money needs to be going back to Calgary if a trade were to happen I don't think both Ghost and Voracek would be going but I could see one of them being packaged with frost and a pick</div></div>
What about from 31-35 which is where we are talking about Vorachek now vs Gaudreau. Unless you are a team that is contending which the Flames are not you don't add a player like Vorachek who is on the downswing of his career as a forward and is on a contract that will not be worth it for the remainder of his career. If we were a contending team this might be a different trade to take in because at least we get future value for Gaudreau with Frost and the pick, but unfortunately we are not, and since we're not you don't look to take on an aging player not worth their contract for a 27 year old still in their prime.
I think instead of talking about having to take money back we should just be talking about why this trade shouldn't even be being talked about in the first place because of how well it fits for the Flyers and how it doesn't fit at all for the Flames.

I think he will be a good player as well, but that potential isn't guaranteed and at that price of a return on Gaudreau you're basically guaranteeing that he will be that type of player. Which just isn't realistic at this point. There needs to be additional value for the possibility of him not turning out and a late 2nd isn't enough to offset that. On top of taking on a contract that IMO are not worth the player at this point in their careers when talking about Vorachek, JVR or Ghost.

Voracek and Gaudreau have produced similarly throughout their careers except Gaudreau has his one monster season where he put up 99 points. Ghost hasn't been fully healthy for they last two seasons and in a down year two years ago where he still played full time he put up 37 points I think a change of scenery will do him good and think he'll be able to get back to being a 60 point dman. Even if he doesn't get back to that point hes a 40 point dman when he gets top powerplay time in sheltered minutes.
Edit: I'm not saying they have their full value but i really don't think they're value is down all that much</div></div>
Agree to disagree then. I think Ghost is a toxic asset and for someone who was harping that age and cost is huge for Konecny vs Gaudreau. You seem to turn a blind eye to the age and cost of Vorachek quite easily.

I really like Frost, but he is not a sure thing to be a top 6 forward. You don't trade a cost controlled Gaudreau on a two year contract for Frost and a late 2nd. Especially if the low top 6 forward is JVR or Vorachek who are good players on a bad contracts.
IMO if you're taking one of those guys back then some type of salary retention is needed and that 2nd has to be a first to get the Flames to even think about it, and this all only happens if we're able to sign Hall or another top 6 forward to help replace lost production from moving Gaudreau IMO.

I guess that's where we disagree, Frost and a 2nd isn't enough for Gaudreau alone. Let alone adding two negative value contracts on top of it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>flyersarephilly</b></div><div>You either haven't watched Voracek play and believe fans that trash him or are over valuing Gaudreau. Sure Voracek is a little over paid but when he signed the contract he was more than worth it and has lived up to it decently. you can account of 60-80pts from him every season and he has great playmaking ability. I'm sure the league still values him as a very valuable asset to a team. You can say you don't like the trade but don't act like you're getting crumbs</div></div>
No one is saying Vorachek is a bad player. He is a good player whose contract negates the positives he brings at this point in his career, especially at the 8.25AAV with 4 years left as a 31 year old whose play is beginning to drop off. Ghost is just a negative value contract who we should be getting paid for to take off your hands and in this case we are not. I would rather keep a cost controlled Gaudreau than take on those two overpaid contracts and handcuff ourselves from making actual needed changes to our roster on top of moving Gaudreau. If we trade him it should only be if we are able to sign Hall or acquire another similar skilled top 6 forward, and if he does get traded I would hope it would be for cost controlled young players with potential, or a package for a #1 center which we desperately need (the center is highly unlikely).
That being said I agree with the Flames fan above, Jimmy Hayes is a Flyers fan looking through rose tinted glasses the same as yourself and is idiotic if he actually thinks this is a decent offer. In reality, he's probably just looking for clickbait and it worked. But if he's not and this garbage trade actually comes to fruition. It is our GM who is the idiot. I would bank on the former.

Most likely true, but it's always fun to try things out. I'm sure you as a fan are hoping for more than just 4th liners and a 5/6 dman being signed.
Also. if it helps Calgary, I could care less if it helps out any other team. Even if it has to be the Oilers. Unfortunately I think the CBO is unlikely to happen. But, one can only dream that Looch and Neal caphits will be gone this summer am i right?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kotkaniemi15</b></div><div>What on earth does “get over 89” mean?
Anyways, the Barkov trade is obviously ridiculous. Regardless of whether you think he’s better than MacKinnon/Draisaitl or not (I’m not getting into that right now) he’s still a top 5 centre in the league and making only $5.9 million. Barkov is completely untouchable, just like Crosby, McDavid, Draisaitl, MacKinnon, Malkin, Pettersson, etc. are untouchable. You’re not getting him by giving up a fringe 1C, an ok top 4 defenseman, and 2 late 1st round picks.</div></div>
Like I said, you can't please everyone. You're probably right that they won't move him it's rare we see #1 centres moved, BUT at least others seem to think that the trade value is there and that's all I care about. No need to be a Debbie Downer, Negative Nancy or a Killjoy Kotkaniemi.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>Good Barkob trade
I wouldn't have signed Hall though. Cap will be flat next year and maybe even the year after depending on how much revenue the league can generate without having fans in the stands. That means in 2 years this team would be screwed trying to sign everyone. Gaudreau, Barkov and Tkachuk will all be wanting raises.</div></div>
Unfortunately I think we will be losing Gaudreau when he hits FA. Because of that I could see a trade for him happening as early as this offseason or next just to get value for him. Which would help in signing Barkov and Chucky. Giordano also coming off the books will help as well in 2 years.

I haven't paid a lot of attention to Stralman, but looking at his current cap hit I'm not sure how a deal would work if we had to take him back. I feel like his contract is negative value (but I could be wrong, just haven't seen him play a lot lately) and we would be giving up a bit much if he had to be included at his full salary.

Yeah I could definitely see that. Possibly a prospect with potential or someone that can be converted to center? Philly may have a need for defense and has some potential in Konecny, Frost or Nolan Patrick (depending on his injury status) in a trade, aside from that it's almost impossible to find young established top 6 centers.

That's fair for sure. I guess if you guys are moving Dumba, you're more likely to just move a huge package for a possible center. Just tough to find any #1's that are available unless they hit UFA is all. I'm glad the offer at least seems fair from the first two opinions posted haha.
