Callahan's money does nothing to us, we still have $8mil. Only the delusional think we'll be competitive next year so cap space doesn't matter.
Look at our seconds over the past few years. McIssac, Berggren, Barton, Smith, and Lindstrom (I may be forgetting someone). The only one of those I'd say is a better prospect than Raddysh is McIsaac. Raddysh for a 2nd, a late one at that, is fair value. The 6th was just kind of a throw in.

But you're getting Taylor Raddysh. He's a very good right handed forward prospect. Over half a point per game in the AHL and fits our timeline and the identity we're building towards well.

Would you trade a young 60 point winger for a winger who hasn't hit 40 points and is known for being inconsistent and bad defensively, two long shot prospects, and two seconds? I didn't think so.

Massive rebuild - trades with TOR WPG PHI BOS
You have to think about these trades from the perspective of both teams, put yourself in the other teams shoes.
TOR trade: Would you give up a young top line winger for a guy who can't reach 40 points and is known for being incredibly inconsistent and bad defensively, A bottom pair defenseman about to retire, A 4th line center who is slightly overpaid, and a 1st? I know I wouldn't.
WPG trade: You've got a young top pair defenseman, would you give him up for a 40 point 2nd line winger, A 3rd pair defenseman, a bottom 6 forward who is overpaid long term, and a 2nd?
BOS trade: It's been proven time and time again that Vanek has no trade value. He went for Jokinen and Motte at the last deadline. He's bad defensively and teams don't pay up for him for that reason. To think we'll suddenly get gold for him is laughable.
PHI trade: Howard is not worth a first round pick, and Ericsson serves no purpose to them since they've got young defensemen coming up.
This isn't NHL 19 where you can just keep adding until both value bars are the same length. 4 quarters does not make a dollar in the real NHL.

Athanasiou does not get you Hanifin. Would you trade way a young top pair defenseman for an inconsistent middle six winger?

There's no point in buying out Ericsson. His contract is up in two years and buying him out would only extend the amount of time we're paying him. Be patient and let him walk.

New GM mindset
Dude, Mitch Callahan isn't even a 4th liner. Unless you mean AHL 4th liner, or ECHL top 6. Dude has 9 points in the AHL this season.

Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jfstompers</b></div><div>I like oueltte but I think boston passes. They want more of a vet than him. Booth has zero value. Yeah I'll take the nyquist deal and the deal for green. They can only help going forward. I'd love to get rid of another big salary if possible to get a bit of flexibility. Tatar, Neilson have some value.</div></div>
It would be hard to move Nielsen. His production has dropped and he's signed long term. Maybe a team desperate for center depth like Montreal, but I don't see them buying. Also keep in mind he plays a big role on the team. Without him we'd have no third line center and we'd have to force a young guy into that position when they're not ready.
Edit: Also keep in mind that the cap should go up, which makes our cap situation less dire.

Drain the swamp of shitty contracts
Maybe I did underestimate Alzner's contract. My logic was that he's only making 2.8 now, and isn't getting any better. I forgot to take the market into account. I'll change it to $6milx3years. It isn't the term most of you expect, but the extra million AAV could do it.
Just to explain, my reasoning behind getting Alzner is because we need to have something on the ice at defense. DeKeyser's contract is too long for my tastes, and Alzner could be a better alternative with less term. With a 3 year deal is contract will end a year after Kronwall's, allowing us to transition into our new young d-core.
Thanks for the feedback.
