Not Looking Good
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>While I would highly agree that is the case with Brent Seabrook, I would strongly disagree that is the case of Duncan Keith. He still has value - he's a good skater that plays big minutes - that's worth something. Age is less of a factor with those that keep in good shape and have good routines. Although there are a ton of examples to the contrary, I would point you directly at Patrick Marleau.</div></div>
I forgot to mention the NMC but I also remember a pretty solid D from the Red Wings who did play at a high level until he was 42 years old...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>If Chicago really wanted to wheel and deal to facilitate change within the organization, I would have to imagine Stan Bowman giving some serious consideration to trading Duncan Keith. He may not be the defender he was when he was a Stanley Cup champion or Norris trophy winner, but he's still a solid defender on a decent contract (considering some of the more expensive Blackhawk contracts). I could see a team like Edmonton, for example, desperate come trade deadline time trying to find a defender to stabilize their defensive unit. I am not entirely sure what the Blackhawks could get for Keith, but I imagine it would help in this rebuild, retool, restructure...ah, whatever it is you want to call what the Blackhawks are trying to do.</div></div>
Keith is 35 and his contract expires when he'll be 39. He's kinda tough to sell… Unfortunately, the Hawks are stuck with both him and Seabrook unless they offer 1st rounders to sweeten the pot. I'm not sure it's a good idea...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>PASS on Maatta. WAAAY too much and he'd be their 7th dman OR next to Seabrook...$11M on bottom pair defense is a recipe for disaster. BOTH Gus (I know in this post you traded him away) and Forsling are ahead of Maatta for LD slots.</div></div>
Maatta is playing nearly 20 min for PIT and is +8. He must not be so bad. The idea is to add some size. I really like the potential of Jokiharju, Boqvist, Beaudin, Mitchell, Forsling, Gus, krys, etc. but they are all 6' or less and average 175 lbs. We need someone to clear the crease when Blake Wheeler, Ryan Getzlaf, Jamie benn or Ryan Johansen have their big asses in front of Crawford… Is Muzzin a better fit?

Duchene Panarin last attempt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>You just gave me 1 star but suggest moving Kruger Kunitz and Ward before the TDL when all 3 of NMCs or NTCs. Then you suggest OTT or Columbus is going to let Duchene, Dzeingel and Panarin walk in free agency for nothing versus trading them prior to the TDL for assets? Give me what you're smoking</div></div>
Don't get me wrong, I quit smoking a long time ago. It's impossible that OTT or CLB let those star players walk for nothing. They will go to contenders at the deadline for sure. But, sometimes in July, they will still be free agents and they will be able to sign wherever they want and I think the privilege to ride shotgun next to Kane is a nice bargaining chip for Bowman and his crew to attract a player like Duchene.

Duchene Panarin last attempt
I think both OTT and CLB could agree those kind of offers. But where in the standings will be CHI at the deadline? I'm not convinced, as for now, that they'll be in a position to contend, yet make the playoffs. So, they should try to trade the likes of Saad, Rutta, Kruger, Kunitz and Ward to contenders for picks and/or prospect and then sign Duchene and Dzingel in the off-season without giving assets and/or picks. It's the best of both worlds. Panarin will ask for too much money but I think that Duchene and Dzingel are plausible contracts to take on. Schmaltz - Duchene - Kane, DeBrincat - Toews - Kahun, Dzingel - Anisimov - Hayden is a potent top-9. Fill the rest of the roster with guys like Sikura, Kampf, Ejdsell, Fortin, Highmore, Johnson, etc. and you have a legit team without sacrificing youth and picks. Don't you think?
